My last run was over two and a half weeks ago and it was tough, done in the cold air, after dark. I'd not run since, first due to a couple of aches in shoulder and knee, then the snow came, which made the paths dangerous, although I did manage a couple of very short runs on the fresh snow, just down a couple of streets between the bus stop and my hairdressers house, wouldn't count it as a proper run as it was in wellies and very slow.
I had an appointment at the podiatrists a couple of weeks ago and now have orthotics to raise my arches, I've been gradually get used to them over the last 2 weeks and today was their first outing in my running shoes. My knee/leg didn't niggle at all on my run, so please about that.
So todays run, I set out thinking 4k would be enough, and decided to not try to go too fast. I found a good easy pace quite quickly and really enjoyed the first 20 mins, but needed a walking break at 26 mins, I'd run 4.2k, so I stopped my garmin as I'd achieved my 4k goal for the day. After a few minutes walking, I felt good and wanted to run more, so ran the rest of the way home, which is about another 1k, but I didn't re-start my Garmin for this last run (doh).
It was so good to be out running again, helped by the fact that the sun was shining and it wasn't freezing cold. I just love that high you get from a good run.
