W9R3 – I've only gone and done It!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just finished W9R3 not only did I do the 30 minutes but I had mapped my route beforehand so knew where I had to run to do 5K so I kept going and completed 5K in 35 minutes 15 seconds according to my Nike+ lady. I wouldn't have believed that someone who has not run for 30 odd years could end up running 30 minutes 3 times a week. This really works a really good program C25K with Laura and the forum here to encourage me to keep going.

After Week 6 R 2 I had my knee problem so had to stop, let that recover, get over the cold virus, go to Sweatshop for gait analysis and nice new trainers. Then after 5 weeks out I set out on the program again restarting at W5.

W6 R3 was my brick wall when I stopped a few minutes short of the 25 minutes, which seemed to be a total mental block that pulled me up. But with encouragement from this forum I got going again and finished today thank you to you all for your support.

I will get my graduation badge before Christmas which is good, also to all those more mature runners out there it is my birthday a few days after Christmas and I will be 62 years young. So if I can do it anyone can. I will now keep up the running, with the aim of bringing my time for the 5 K closer to 30 minutes. I may even try one of the local Park runs.

To all those new starters or those that are part way through the program keep going, remember it is a mental challenge as well as physical but the reward in completing the program is well worth the effort and everyone on here is running beside you when you are out there pounding the streets.

Many congratulations exwightman - a fabulous achievement especially after your setback. It takes real determination to get back into something like this after 5 weeks out from injury - I'm not sure I would have!

Here's to that 30min 5K!!

Congratulations, ex!! Completed the program, ran 30 minutes and then completed the 5K distance...now that is what I call a good run!! Be sure to give that Parkrun a go, I know that I love running surrounded by other people. Most of them run off and leave me wheezing and puffing in the back of the pack, but it is still fun to be around other runners!!

Congratulations again and Keep Running!! :-)

Yeah!!!!!!! Well done exwightman, I'm really chuffed for you. You persevered and conquered it! (well to be honest I think you smashed it! - 35mins running = awesome). Congratulations! :)

Thanks Leyther! I hope you recover from your cold soon and get back out there so that you cross the finish line. You have done so well so far without a hitch so hopefully this is just a test which you will overcome and push on.

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations on my finishing the program, both graduates and fellow runners in the program. The virtual pats on the back as we work our way through the C25K program and reach the finish are what this community is all about. Brilliant people :-)
