Hi All,

Well I finished my final run last night in the blistering cold. I had a pretty good week although noticed quite a difference in my personal performance.

W9-R1 covered 5K in 29 mins and 43 seconds.

W9-R2 covered 5K in 29 mins dead.

W9-R3 covered 5K in 29 mins 54 seconds.

I ran the same route and had to push myself on R1 as I really wanted to get the 5K done within the 30 minutes, which I did, but I had to dig deep in the last 1K. For run 2 I started off a little quicker, and tried to keep my pace up during the up hill sections. In general I felt really good all of the way around and covered 5K in 29 minutes dead, but the last minute seemed like an age. The final run last night was in general a bit of a slog, it was hard work from the off and I really had to keep pushing all of the way around.

Not really sure what is effecting my performance but I suspect it might be the time of day that I am running. Both R1 and R3 were early evening, and R2 was during the day. I am beginning to wonder whether it's fuel related.

By the time I get out running at 19.00 I probably haven’t eaten for 6 hours, and could be running on fumes. Whereas if I get a run in during the day it generally is a couple of hours after lunch.

I would like to see if I can get down to sub 28 in the next few weeks, and might give running before work a bash to see how my time compares at that point.

Onwards and upwards.....

Matt

Well done on completing the C25K plan, and running 5K in a good time.

I wouldn't worry about small differences in timing, Even one minute difference over 5 km is only a few seconds for each km and our running pace can be affected by so many things - weather conditions, underfoot conditions, fuel levels, tiredness, etc...

Well done! You will find your time slowly improves run by run, in general.

Congratulations on your graduation, fab times as well. As you say, you may need to experiment with a few different times of day to find your optimum time - but you are already pretty good! :)

Congratulations, Matt!! Those are very good times!! The difference in times could be almost anything. I wouldn't get to worked up about the small differences. As mentioned previously, if you spread those seconds over a full 5K distance, you are varying very little each K.

Congratulations again and Keep Running!! :-)
