Another Parkrun another PB

Who would have thought 4 months ago that I would be able to run 5K, certainly not me and yet having graduated from C25K I have completed my 4th Parkrun and got another PB. Only a 12 second improvement and still outside the 30 minute mark (32.34) but getting closer :-)

This morning I was out of bed early and eating breakfast while it was still dark so that I would be able to run at 9. There weren't so many of us today at the Parkrun, maybe as it is near Christmas and people had other things to do, so I was quite worried as I knew there was a strong possibility I would be the last finisher. However when the man said go I set off. It was a beautiful morning for running and not a breath of wind which unfortunately made everyone go really fast and soon I was jogging along on my own. However encouraged by the excellent marshalls (and the fast runners as they lapped me) I finished the course and achieved a PB. I wasn't quite last and apparently came 2nd in my age group and was the 10th woman to finish (although as mentioned the field was small and some people mostly women I suspect forgot their barcodes) Overall however I am very pleased with my achievements today. Now if only I could be as enthusiastic about the Christmas shopping...... :-D

Well done Rolphie, I'm impressed. I'm still at the stage of thinking "Maybe, one day, I'll be able to do a Parkrun". As for the shopping; that's what the internet is for! :-)

Thank you, you will definately be able to do a Parkrun, did my first one during wk7, as there was a new one starting where I live, and had to walk and run it, so am really pleased that I can now run the whole course. You should definately give it a go if you are able everyone is really friendly and supportive, though the fast runners are very fast!! And yes it will be internet shopping, thought for some reason always end up looking at running stuff - not sure that is what my dad wants!! :-D

There is a Parkrun just 8 miles from where I live, but as I'm only on week 5, I think I'll give it a few weeks yet ;-) Good luck with the shopping. I even bought my cards online this year. I hate shopping at the best of times, but weekends in December are definitely an anathema.

Yay! Well done!

Which ParkRun do you go to?

You and I have some things in common -- today was also my fourth ParkRun, and today I also got another personal best. Actually, have done so every time thus far (though it's because I started with a rubbish time of 34:44). Another thing in common: Four months ago, I too would have thought this damn near an impossible feat! :-D

I go to the Southend Parkrun, which one do you go to? I have also got a PB at each run I have done but know this won't continue, just waiting to break the 30 min mark fingers crossed it will be soon :-D

I'm at the Oxford ParkRun. Congrats to you on getting PBs each time! As you say, it won't continue... but we may as well enjoy it as it lasts!

Also, good luck with your quest to break the 30 minute mark. I did so for the first time just nine days ago. Wow, was I high for days! You'll get there, and you'll feel great when it happens!

Well done Rolphie! Personally, an organized 5k is the way for any soon to be Graduate or new Graduate to go! I ran a 5k the week I graduated and have now ran 3 organized runs. So much better getting the nerve up to do it then sitting and wondering if you can. Amazing time for you and very proud of you getting another PB!!!! Gayle

Thank you we are very lucky to live only a 5 minutes from a Parkrun so can regularly run 5K, not sure I could be a good as you and travel to race!

I'm hoping to be able to attend my nearest Parkrun after Christmas when I finish the course. I'm really looking forward to it.
