Every journey starts with a single step ....

So today, I took that step. I left my house this morning at 6.45 under cover of darkness, wrapped up like a plump middle aged ninja, and began my epic journey ...... round the block.

Well it's a start isn't it? I did not bring Laura with me, I just wanted to walk and run once round the block to see how I felt. I did not want to set myself up for a long 20 minute workout, or take myself a mile or so away to the park. I just wanted to overcome my main hurdle - leaving my house and running outside, by doing one lap of my block, walking and running. I was out for a total of 7 minutes and 6 seconds - most of that just walking. But I am happy I did it.

It was quiet outside. It was just in between dark and light and barely a soul out there except me. No annoying gym music, stale air, monotonous pounding. It was lovely and fresh and relaxing. I ran an easy minute and stopped, walked, did another. I was pleased at how simple it was for me compared to my earlier attempts to run outside. I enjoy that time for running - and I will just stick to running round and round my block for now until I get bored and want to go further afield.

I definitely like that time for running, and starting the day with a run - it has put me in such a positive mindset. After my run, breakfast and school run, I went to the gym and did strength training. My goal is to eventually build up to running the 1.8 miles to the gym, do my workout and run back. But for now, it's small steps for me!

Beautifully done, mummy!! You are so very right about each journey starting with a single step!! Often times, that very same single step is the very hardest one to take!! Today, you took that most important first step!! Well done, you!!

Welcome to the great outdoors and keep up with that wonderful positive mindset!!

Keep Running!! :-)

I feel very chuffed with myself. I am thinking ahead to rainy days and have nabbed one of my husbands cycling jackets. Just need a woolly hat and I'll be ready for all weathers!

Well done, you've made the first step. I like the way you did it with no pressure to run or walk. Don't worry about time at the moment, if you can make a habit of getting out and about when you decide to do week 1 it won't be quite the shock to the system!

And welcome to the early morning club!

Thank you. I am hovering on W3 and have been for two weeks now. I am going to have a go at repeating W2 outside though because it is very different from the treadmill.

Wooohooo! Thank you! I'll be dropping back to W2 for my next proper run outside, just to get used to it.
