Running may have come to an end for me.....

Started c25k in August and was going well up to wk9 run1, when I started having knee trouble to the point that I could hardly walk! Two weeks enforced rest with chest infection, and all was well. Last week, two very shot gentle runs, one of 10 mins and the other 18 mins and am back in agony again! Went to GP this morning, who recommended surgery, and was happy to do referral there and then. He also suggested cycling or swimming as a good alternative. However, I told him I wanted to run, and as such recommended surgery for permanent relief. I have lost about a stone since starting this and am really disappointed that I may have to stop the running. I have given myself a month to see how things go before making the final decision. Am going to rest it as much as possible and then try a short run and if it flares up straight away, I guess I will have to follow the doctors recommendation.

So for the next couple of weeks, I will be resting the knee and keeping my fingers crossed that I can return.

Good luck to everyone in your quest to graduate. I still hope to make it there one day!!

How frustrating for you, but you need to take care of that knee. Maybe a longer period of rest will do some good and start out very gradually.

I do hope you are able to continue and hope to see your name with a lovely green badge next to it sometime :o)

Thanks. Think I may be resting from running for a while! I will get the green bade one day though!

Caro...how sad... :-( what did he decide is wrong with your knee? Do you take any type of anti-inflammatory medication? I have a few homeopathic things I'm taking that seem to take care of my knee pain but if they are suggesting surgery, you must have serious damage compared to my knee problems. If you are interested, message me and I can tell you what I take. Wishing you well caro and keep us updated! Gayle

Thinks it may be cartilage problem. Swelling gone down today, but still very painful.

I am so sorry to hear the news that you have received. It is much more important to take care of that knee than it is to worry about graduation right now.

I wish you the very best!
