Can anyone recommend me anything that will help aid the tiredness and dull pain in my legs; it's deterring me on my runs!

How long have you been experiencing this? What is your diet? How long have you been running? Do you need to lose any weight?

Most times that I run I experience this, and I run 3 days a week. I am on Week 2 pt.3 of the program.

For the past two weeks, I have been consuming a bowl of cereal/muesli and a coffee in the morning, beans on toast with low fat spread for lunch, chicken, rice, vegetable and curry sauce for dinner at about 6.30pm on the days that I run (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) and just red meats with veg and carbs on the days that I'm not running. I drink plenty of water and I have one or two cups of tea a day to stem hunger towards 9-10pm. This varies from Chai to Green tea.

I am 224 pounds as of 20/10/12 and I am 6ft 1in. I have a BMI of 29.4. I would like to be at 185-190 pounds by the end of the program. I am fully committed and have lost 8 pounds in the past three weeks.

Sorry for the information overload!

It is normal to have tiredness and then a day or two later muscle soreness when starting high impact exercise like this, that's why we are advised to have one day at least between runs and spend LOADS of time stretching after the run. Other exercise does help, especially swimming. I sometimes still have muscle soreness on my running days (especially now I have started horse riding lessons lol!) and think I can't run but once I start a gentle run and my legs warm up it usually eases off.

Well done on the weight loss so far. You might want to vary your lunch menu a bit :-P !

Hiya I just wanted to let you know that when I first started this programme I too had achey legs and achey feet on top and bottom but it all disappeared about week 4 I think....sometimes the tops of my feet seem to be a bit achey but I just put this down to carrying alot of stress in my feet..as I am very hard on my feet...keep up the good work hopefully it will pass as it did for me, one tip I use is to rub both my shins and calves with a medicated oil which I get from the asian shop over here works a treat, warms up my muscles nicely.....hope you get some relief soon.

Try some simple gentle leg stretches after your run before you have cooled down. Google running stretches, each stretch should be held for approx 20-30 seconds (count to 30) If the aches become pains then you need to review what may be causing it, you may have the wrong type of shoes for your gait etc. If you have pain down the front of the legs this could be the onset of shin splints, if thats the case turn the shower to cold and run cold water over the painful area for a good few minutes, that will take any inflamation down. If its really bad you could try ice. On a happier note most new runners experiance some sort of aches to begin with, after all you are asking your legs to do something they haven't done before :)
