I have not run in over 30 years and am carrying way too much weight. Started this three weeks ago and, as is my way, went through the early weeks double speed with no breaks and luckily no injuries. Took it sensibly from wk 4 on and have just completed run 1 wk 5 and feel so chuffed at having made so much progress. Somewhat terrified of the idea that in 4 days I am going to run for 20 minutes, but the positive comments I have seen on here from others really motivates me when I feel I cant keep going. I know I can do it, as others have already been there, pushed themselves, and done it.
Now have two other friends downloading the podcasts and getting motivated to give it a go. What a great idea and I am astounded it has taken me so long to stumble across it. Not the best advertised free healthy activity in the world, so I am telling all my FB contacts to join in.
Have signed up for a charity 5k run in November and looking forward to it heaps. If I can do this, most people can.

Well done chusan51, it is a great feeling isnt it?! I will be facing W5R3 later this week too but am trying to stay positive about it - at least it is just the ONE run!!!
I agree that there should be better publicity for this programme as it works, its free and the community here are just brill!
Good luck for November and your journey towards it.
Haha chusan51 I couldn't agree more I love running now too & I also can't believe that this program is not highly publicised. I work for the NHS & had absolutely no clue about it. My husband alerted me to it and eventually I agreed to take a look and I'm so glad I did. Just completed W6R2 today so got the long run in 2 days. I found W5R3 a mental battle for the first 5 mins then I relaxed and enjoyed it. You'll be fine and so will you SBG356, good luck & for your upcoming 5k.
It sounds like you are doing amazing with the program! Great job in signing up for a 5k, I'm sure you will be more than ready by then at the pace your going. Good luck with the 20 minute run and let us know how it goes!!!!
Hi. Like you, I did some running about 30 years ago but gave up when my twins (and then another two) came along. I took up the programme in March and graduated at the end of May with no regrets. Also like you, I was a bit overweight - in fat very overweight. I've now lost around 24kg and have a smug look on my face! Still got a bit to go, but can see the end of the tunnel. So keep up the good work. 5/3 will come and go like any other run - you WILL be ready for it. Just watch out for weeks 6 & 7. I found these pretty tough - basically as an anti-climax after 5/3. It wasn't physically any more difficult, but it was a real mental challenge.
