Hi all, I'm on Week 9 of this fantastic programme and just thought you might get a giggle out of how slow I am. I did Week 9 Day 1 yesterday, on a walking/cycling trail that is pretty much flat. I managed to do the whole 30 minutes (woohoo!) and according to mapmyrun I covered 3.46k, which isn't very good I know. The funny thing is, though, I walked back, at a reasonably brisk pace, and it took... 35 minutes and 48 seconds
I suppose it does prove that I am running slightly faster than I can walk, but I'm pretty sure I won't speed up enough in the next two runs to achieve the 5k in my 30 minutes. Never mind, I couldn't run for 60 seconds when I started, so I know I'm improving!

Well done, week 9 seems so far away when you start..I'm just heading into week 6 so it still does! I've just started to think about speed and realised I'm firmly in the slow lane. I like the advice I've been given on here about working on speed when you've got through the programme, it makes sense...my brisk walk had got faster so I'm hoping when I'm not so worried about making it through the various increases in speed I can do the same for my running. Anyway, without the challenges it would get boring! Keep up the good work
I think you're absolutely right, beatasthma, we can work on speed when we can consistently do 30 minutes. Keep going with the programme - you'll be at this stage before you know it!
I know the feeling, my treadmill has a max speed of 6.2kph which is just a tad faster than my brisk walk! I'm on week 8 and once I've graduated I intend on running outside to help me speed up!
I am so in the same boat! The park I run around is roughly 3km all the way around and I get once round it plus about another 3rd of the way (so no where near 5km!) I'm trying not to let that bother me though because I know if I go any faster there's no way I'll last 30 minutes. Also relatively speaking we've only been doing longer run's for a few weeks and I think it'll just take time to build up a bit more speed (hopefully!!)
Yes, and me - if I speed up I won't be able to keep going for the 30 minutes at the moment. I guess you're right, we have only been doing the longer runs for a few weeks. We'll get there!
