BBC 1 worth an iplayer viewing for those that have missed it...
I'm going to stick with water or my cuppa before my run, (sticking to not taking any fluid out with me, I've never felt the need out there yet as not running for over an hour yet) glass of milk and a little dark choc when i get back in and my cup of tea after my shower
I'm pondering the running shoes revelations... Was planning gait analysis but it seems that simply compfy will do?...
Can this running game get any more confusing?...
I kinda liked all the 'science' and rules that I thought I was following, all my running reading... Are we all just victims of the consumerist society and big companies?... Discuss...

Really interesting wasn't it. Especially about the trainers. Me and running buddy were going to go have gait analysis and treat ourselves to a new pair of trainers for graduating.. not so sure now - like my old current comfy pair!
And yeah - guess what, water hydrates! Loved the scientist trying to keep a straight face and needing a re-take when asked the question about sports drinks..
I've just had a look, esp at the shoes bits. I agree that neutral shoes probably are fine, but the ones I was initially running in tipped my feet to the outside (I didn't get any advice buying them, wasn't tested, just tried them on and they seemed comfy!) I went for foot analysis as I was getting very sore knees. I was sold a more neutral shoe, in a whole size bigger! But they feel brilliant, and I have no knee (or anything else!) pain at all now - and I'm on week 7, running 25 mins non stop.I love it, and not having pain - just general exhaustion!!
I haven't seen it yet but I think from my perspective it is time for new shoes once the spring has gone in your trainers and they don't offer the same level of cushioning/support. I have done much better since my new trainers whereas I had terrible splin shints before.
Hi there...I'd just like to say thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this back in July. I watched 'The Truth about Sports Products' on iPlayer and started Googling barefoot running.
I've watched so many videos, read loads of articles, read Born to Run and I am now running in minimalist running shoes or my vibram fivefingers with a midfoot strike (rather than heelstriking...ouch ouch ouch) and I am never looking back, never going to buy a pair of conventional trainers ever again, I have even bought and made myself a pair of huaraches (from invisibleshoes.com) and they're brilliant!!
I went up to Edinburgh on Saturday and I took part in the first ever Scottish Barefoot Run which is now due to be a yearly event as it was very successful! I now have my husband, my brother and his girlfriend running 'barefoot' and they love it...no more pain, no more sore knees, hips, muscles (apart from the calf muscle while you're converting to a midfoot/forefoot strike) but it's all very much worth it. We just want to run.....
I used to go out running thinking what the bloomin hell am I doing this for, it bloody hurts, I'd wake up the next day and my legs would be sooo very sore and very stiff. Now I'm running faster, more efficiently and with no pain!!! I also had a bit of coaching from Helen Hall on Saturday while on the Scottish Barefoot run, she went round everyone there which was fantastic (she's the top Vibram barefoot coach, she's also an ultra marathoner and the first barefoot ironman triathlete...she does this all in Vibram Fivefingers).
I think that if it wasn't for your blog and watching the program I would have given up on this programme a long time ago...I have now graduated, although I still haven't got my badge and I've sent JR21 a message...twice! Boohoo! But then it was only last Thursday lol.
