To run or not to run...

So I have a friend who is working on a fundraising challenge this week and by this evening is hoping to cover 1000 miles to raise £1000 for a charity project he is working with in Zambia in a few weeks time. I can help by donating money and miles, so yesterday set out to accompany him on a couple of laps around the Craigavon Lakes which he has been walking/running/biking around all week. Joining him for 2 laps meant I covered 6 miles and he therefore got to minus that off his total and did not have to cover it himself.

Seeing this morning that the final total come yesterday was 807miles and knowing he really wanted to hit 1000 by the end of today I set out for a 10k run this morning as I didn't have time to walk it. I don't have precise route measured from my home so I ran 10.24k in 1hr10mins with a break at the half way point which I was surprised with since I haven't ran close to 10k since September last year and that was more or less the the time I was hitting...it not a bit faster! Therefore it was a bit of a tough decision as to whether or not to head out this morning, added to the fact that I had left my newer Brooks in work on Thursday (I walk to work in them, but had gone for dinner after so changed into other shoes) so had to wear my old New Balance when I was walking yesterday and could feel a tightness in the side of my left lower leg which I assume was from a slight difference in gait - I also forgot to put my insoles in my shoes yesterday for the walk....

So glad I got out there, no doubt I will regret it later, but felt like I owed it to my friend. I have stretched to high heavens, but am ready for pain :D

Pain update - my left hip is quite uncomfortable and when I was playing hide and seek with my nephew this afternoon and crawling around behind the sofa I thought it was going to pop out of place. My left lower leg that was already sore is also worse and I imagine it will be for a few days. No muscle soreness yet, but I'm sure that will arrive by tomorrow morning.

I guess I just want to add that I did this against my own advice, even though I've ran 10k's before it had been a very long while and not increasing my distance gradually meant I was putting myself at risk of injury. Today's 10k was a one off (until I start to build up my distance from 5k again).
