Tonight the gym closed early so took to running in the park OMG it was so hard I hated it! My hayfever kicked off knees cane as does my back and hips why? I can only guess It's because of the spring on the treadmill I run now on 5% at 8.5 not fast I know but surely it should have been ok ?
I'll be back in the gym Monday !

It's very different and that's why it's do hard on the body. The impact is much more intense for a start and that can cause a whole heap of aches and pains to begin with. It is something most get used to after a few runs and I've seen a few on here say they now prefer outside to the treadmill, there are many more distractions outside and sometimes those distractions get you through some tough moments in your run. I've done the whole programme outside as I hate the gym and needed distractions to keep me coming back for more, not so much now because I love to run but I like to keep it interesting with different routes and scenery.
Don't give up on it completely, give it a go another time when you go out for a fun run and you may change your mind
I've just finished week 2 and run outdoors. It's funny how we're all so different in our running - and why not? If you prefer the gym that's fine. I hope that we both get to the end of this, even if it seems an awfully long way off for now. By the time we're running for 30 minutes (!) I suppose we'll be in much better condition and maybe the New Fitter You could run outside without suffering? I love being outdoors - apart from the hard slog and heaving breathing I feel (in my head) like I could be in the opening scene in Chariots of Fire... I can dream, can't I? Good luck with week 4!
I have found its completely different indoors than outdoors, vastly easier indoors. I did all my runs outside until the last 3, and I'm staying in the gym until graduation, then will go back to week 5 outdoors, i live in a very hilly area! I like running in the gym but I also like running outside!
