Nutrition and weight loss

This is not why I started the c25k programme but in the 4 weeks I've been doing it, I've lost 10lbs, my bmi is down from 28 to just over 26 and, for reasons I cannot explain I wanted to eat lettuce and did so for the first time in 30 years.

First off, congrats. According to the charts, you are very, very close to a "healthy" weight, and you may even be there already.

Lots of research shows that people who exercise tend to eat healthier food, even if it is a new habit for them. Food becomes fuel in our minds, not only something to make the hunger pangs go, or to share socially as a fun activity. Lettuce-deprivation in and of itself does not necessarily mean poor nutrition, but if it means you are looking at vegetables in a new light, you are on your way not only to a healthy weight, but also increased energy. Your body may be craving nutrient-dense food to support the new demands placed upon it, and that is great! Imagine *wanting* a brussel sprouts (not my favorite). How great it would be to crave foods that are good for us! Keep giving into those good cravings, and you may find yourself even healthier than before.

Absolutely Bridger. Didn't think there was a sport that I would ever actually want to do and enjoy.

I think its because us a 'can do' attitude. I've found that I WANT to make choices based on nutrician and that's not a diet, that's a way of life. Choosing a new way of life doesn't involve the deprivation that many 'diets' evoke. After all, how can I feel deprived if I'm making a choice I want!

Well done and congrats on the weight loss! I have lost 4 st over the last 18 months and I have found that my eating habits have changed completely and I tend to make healthier choices without thinking now, even though I am not actively trying to lose weight any more. Good luck with the rest of the programme :) x

Well done! You must be feeling great. Your blog is really encouraging to those of us who want to lose weight alongside getting fit. I'm trying to lose by following Weight Watchers and usually (yes, its definitely not my first diet!) I lose weight in the first few weeks. Since I started C25K I feel marvelous - the psychological boost is phenomenal, as you all know - but I don't seem to lose much weight. Funnily enough I don't care too much, but it would be nice.
