I have to admit, when I heard Laura say I'd be running 25 full minutes, I almost died!!!! But I thought: nothing beats a failure but a try...and if it didn't work out, I would just repeat Week 6 til it did. What got me through was deeply breathing in and out (I practice yoga, and I can really see the benefits of this while running...I feel that I'm using my body's energy more efficiently), plus slowing down when I started feeling tired. And when Laura said i was officially a runner, well, I felt that today. I'm hearing my own running voice, and that's keeping me going!

Yay, well done! It's so great to hear Laura say you're a runner.
Well done!
I struggle with the breathing, I don't think I'm coordinated enough!
I'm on week 6- the 25 minuter is Friday- I'm quite looking forward to it!
Well done! I'm so impressed by all you runners. Hard to imagine I could be one perhaps in less than 5 weeks. You must be so chuffed!
I'm struggling with breathing already in week two. The pollen count isn't helping either. When Laura tells me to breathe in for 4 and out for 4 I'm stumped. My breathing is a rapid in-ou-in-out, all through the mouth. I've never been able to master nasal breathing. Can you suggest what I could do to improve this?
To rachie1752 and Nevertoolate: the breathing thing isn't easy...even in yoga, it has taken me almost 2 years to be more aware of my breaths and the benefits of such...but what is important is that you keep trying, in other words - practice, practice, practice (that's kind of a yoga mantra, LOL!). And where I am, the pollen count is awful, too (have to rely on my allergy meds and a Neti pot to daily wash out the nasal passages for now). But I do find that breathing keeps you focused...especially when your energy might start flagging a bit...breathing in oxygen gets it to the areas in your body that need it to complete your runs. I love this forum...we get to share what we're all going through. Hope I've been of some help to you both.
