Part success with running in the heat.

Part success because I didn't complete the run :( but the positive is that I didn't die, even though I thought I might and I coped pretty well in a relatively good time, considering it was 24 degrees

I was supposed to do a 7 mile run, but I only managed 9 km (5.6 miles) I decided to start at 10.00 am regardless of the weather, because that's the time of the 10k race at the end of june. I stopped mainly because I had done a full loop and psycologically I just couldn't carry on once I'd got back to the starting point. Well, I could, but I didn't want to!!

It was so hot! It goes without saying that it is really, really hard running in this heat and I kept thinking about thoses runners who do marathons in hot countries. Just incredible.

An ice cream van passed me and I nearly cried.

Although I felt like I was dying towards the end when I sit here now and look at the garmin times I am pleased that my times are quite steady and similar each mile and I did it in 1 hour 6 minutes. I did 10k in that time a few weeks ago but that was on the flat and 15 degrees cooler!

So apart from not actually doing the full run, I am actually really chuffed, if not amazed, at my stamina and sheer bloodymindedness.

I am also pretty confident now that if it is this hot on my race day, then I will still be able to complete it.

Well done you, I went out this morning at 8am and was amazed that I ran at all, I never thought I would be happier running in the pouring rain than the blazing sun. Went out last night at 8.30pm and it was lovely.

Well done.. the heat is not an easy thing to get used to, thats for sure. Still... you know you can do it now!

I found that when i ran in summer it took ages for my face to go a normal colour again. I was running in the evening, about 8 oclock and it was 22-25 degrees but no sun thankfully, and sometimes even a breeze (once i got up the stupendously huge hill).

On a brighter note, snap I did 10k yesterday morning in an hour and 7 minutes and it was all of 14 degrees outside.

Well done! A good time for this heat too! :) If this weather continues you'll be well used to it by the end of June for your race!

Well done for getting so far and in such a good time.

The thought of the ice cream van made me laugh :)

That is great! I think it is a bit of a mental battle with the heat. But it's good to set the mind at ease so if the temperatures start climbing near your race day you will know that you can do it!
