it was w6r3 today and it was tough. I'm not sure if it was mental, physical or both but i found it tough in places and had to do some mini walking intervals. The first was after 15 minutes of running and was quite soon after a bit of an incline which i managed fine but then seemed to flake out a bit. I started running again then had to walk about 3 minutes later. (I paused the podcast whenever i was walking). I started off again and strangely got into my stride and finished the podcast but not with a big sense of elation or acheivement. Just feel a bit like I've let myself down but i know I should treat it as a learning curve. I think I will repeat this podcast and move onto week 7 when i can actually run 25 minutes non stop. The trail run I love through the woods does have inclines and slight downhills, maybe I'm not quite ready to do inclines on a 25 minuter just yet
not quite there for week 7 yet..: it was w6r... - Couch to 5K
not quite there for week 7 yet..
I know how you feel but you really haven't let yourself down. It's just one of those runs that didn't go quite as planned. I'd be tempted to move on to week 7 anyway, it's not that different. Well done for getting this far
I found it helped to do the first run of each week on a flatter route (not easy as I live at the top of a hill!!) then go back to the hillier one when I was a bit more acclimatised to the longer time. Might just give you a psychological boost. And I echo blueboots - just carry on and give week 7 r1 a go - it's the same amount of time as week 6 r3 so you get four goes at it in total! Good luck and keep going - you're doing great!
I found week 6 run 3 the hardest one so far, I was feeling really sick and awful by the time I finished. I did think maybe I need to go back a week, but I decided to give it a go, and got started on week 7 run1, thinking I could just keep going for as long as I could, didn't care if it was 10, 20 or 25 mins. I managed it fine, and didn't feel half as bad as the one before, even though it was the same time. Give it a go and see how it feels, I left it 2 days between the runs instead of 1 and that was right for me. Good luck with the next one, you'll be fine!
Thankyou everyone for your help and support. I've been reading through the psychological motivations thread for inspiration and the most meaningful and poignant was the one about thinking about service personnel and people who are not mobile and would love to be able to do what we are all doing. I often see a chap during my warm up walks or dogwalks who uses a specially adapted bike that he uses to take his dog for a walk. I also visited my mother in hospital this afternoon and saw some terribly poorly people in the ward and I said a silent prayer of thanks for my health and mobility. No more moaning and groaning about how I can't manage a simple run!
You've not let yourself down, you still finished it. Maybe repeat the run then you will mentally feel better afterwards? At this stage (for me anyway!) it's all about the mindset so it's good to read people's motivations, I know it helps me.
Good luck with the next run, you can do it!
