Good luck!! I'm on week 7 and it's amazing how quickly your stamina builds up. Just take it nice and easy and believe Auntie Laura when she says 'You can do this'!!

I start week 3 tomorrow. I've really enjoyed the runs, not always easy but it's very satisfying each time you finish one. Good luck with it. On my first run, my run was hardly any faster than my brisk walk but I've gradually increased the speed of both the walk and the run, increasing the running speed more than the walking speed. I'd agree that I've been impressed by how noticeably I've improved (although early days yet), partly I think because you learn that you can push yourself further than you realized. Relax and enjoy it :-)

Good luck! The hardest part is getting out the door in the first place. I'm in week 2 and cant believe I've come so far already. Found it helped using my iPhone app run keeper which maps where you've run & how far. Stick with it you do see improvements very quickly x

I've finished week 2 today and moving on to week 3 on Monday.

Good luck with your first run and stick at it, it really does start to get easier very quickly! I genuinely enjoyed my run today and if you'd told me 2 weeks ago I'd be enjoying running ever, let alone in only 2 weeks you would have got a sarcastic comment back!

In the words of Victor Meldrew "I can't believe it!".

Let us know how you get on!

Well done! It's worth keeping at it, I did wk3 run 1 this morning and felt great, can't believe how quickly I've started to really enjoy it. I've never been good at running before, but with Laura's help I'm sure I'll be running 5k within the next few weeks!

Hi again!

I sucessfully completed week one back in January (and posted about it on the old board). Then there was snow and -20 degrees and I stopped.

Today I was motivated to give it a second try. warm 8 degrees (the 'worst' I ran in was -1,5), cloudy - very nice.

Only problem was that I got a stitch during the warmup walk! I thought it would go away once I was running, but no. So I stopped running mid run 1 and walked home.

Oh well, it was better to go out for those 1,7 kilometers than to sit on the couch, but it's still a bit dissapointing. I hope it goes better on Wednesday, when I attempt a PROPER first run again. ;)

Laura suggests drinking water before you start your run - I now do this every time (about 250ml - not enough to slosh about!) and haven't had a stitch yet. It might work for you SuZi.....

I'll try this next time. Thanks juicydee.

I did Run 1 of Week 4 today. I have used this method before. It really does work if you follow the advice in the Podcasts. I run for my mental health as well as physical and it really does make a difference.

I only looked at the site yesterday and decided I was going to start next week, but I arrived at a balance class 30 mins early so thought I'd just nip on the treadmill. I know its not the same as running outdoors so I had the incline at 1.5.

I must admit, the 60 sec jog seemed to go pretty quick and the 20 mins was soon over. I was sweaty and a bit out of breath but so pleased I'd actually started without intending to. And, I managed a 1hr balance class after that. I'm really chuffed with myself, as I'm 49, 4 stone overweight, have health problems and havnt exercised for the last year. This is a great chance to lose this weight once and for all, and being part of this group will keep me motivated. So thanks, and watch this space....
