Week 1 of Couch to 5K

I’m new to this. I’ve started Couch to 5K to improve my overall health and most importantly to improve my mental health. I’ve just completed my second run in week 1 so decided to have a look through what support was available and well here I am.

Congratulations on starting C25K with runs 1 and 2 of week 1, welcome to the forum, take all the runs slowly, you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, no running on consecutive days as that could cause a injury, good luck for your running journey with C25K, onwards and upwards 🏃🏾 👍

Thanks for the advice I’ll take that on board 👌🏻😊

Hi Hidden There's loads of help, advice and support on here so it's a great thing you found us all. Good luck and keep logging your progress on here. It's a great boost 🤩Loads of us were total novices on here when they started, me included. Now I'm on week 9 and still need some support, but it's also great to be able to help other newcomers.

Happy running 😁

You'll get there too 😉 and thank you 🤩🏃🏼‍♀️

Hi, well done on your first week. I just got back from my 2nd run of week 1 also 🤗 it was really nice to read someone else at the same stage as me! Best of luck for your 3rd run of the week 😊

Thank you and well done to you too, I’m glad you replied to my post. I wish you all the best for your last run of the week. I noticed in your username your a student nurse, I’m also currently studying to become a nurse, I started the SWAP access to nursing course earlier this year which is another reason I’ve decided to get healthier 🥰

Aw that’s amazing! How are you finding nursing? Have you gone for any particular specialism? I’m doing mental health nursing. Currently on community placement and having to walk everywhere because I don’t drive. I didn’t realise how unfit I was! 😂 let me know how your final run of the week goes. I hope it goes well 😊 I’m planning for tomorrow but it was very icy last night where I am so might have to go for Sat instead 🥰

in reply toStudentNurseTasha

Sorry for the late response, I find myself constantly running out of time! I’ve applied to mental health nursing next year but not sure if I’ll even get a placement unless this virus is a under control. My final run of week one was the hardest as it was icy where I am too but I’m now onto week 3 and it’s still easier than I thought it would be, so far so good 😊 how are you getting on with nursing and running?

Aw well done on making it to week three! I didn’t make it past week one 😭 I was fine right up until the end of the run then I got the most awful pain on the inside of my knees. I continued and finished the run but wow the pain has got worse. That was two weeks ago this Friday and I can barely walk. My gp has signed me off physical activity on placement and right now I can’t see an end in sight. He said to continue running when they recover but I’m wondering when that will be! You’ll love mental health nursing it’s so interesting. They should accept you even with this horrible virus because they are crying out for mental health nurses. Some argue that mental illness will be an even bigger crisis than the virus itself 😞 well done again on your running 🏃🏻‍♀️ you should feel really proud of yourself! 💜

Hiya, well done you. I found this group only the other day and I’ve been doing the program for seven weeks. I wish I’d found it earlier, the support and info on here is invaluable. Check the pinned posts - there’s some brilliant info. Good luck to you. I hate hate hated running to start with and I honestly think I’m addicted now. I can’t fathom it really lol. You can do it!!!

in reply toAsthmaticsnail

Good on you for starting. I’ve just re-started at week 3. Feels so good when you’ve been out for your walk/run. Great to have something to focus on in these difficult times too. Good luck with it . Xx

Well done and good luck NewMe26! I joined this programme back in October for exactly the same reasons as you. I graduated just before Christmas. I am now on consolidation runs of 5k three times a week. When I started, I was 2 stone overweight and couldn't run for a bus! Have two dodgy knees as well 😆 I never thought this possible so it really does work! This programme has transformed my life in so many ways. As the others have said, take your time, make sure you take your rest days and I'm certain you will achieve your goals. Look forward to hearing how you progress 🤩

Hi! I just started on Monday and will be doing my 3rd "run" tomorrow (Friday). I've been looking for someone on the same week/days as I am, just for a bit of support. xx

I started C25K in September, completed it in November and have now run 8k. My advice would be to trust the plan. There will be runs that seem a bit daunting but like so many people I found that the plan works and will get you there.
