Knee pain

I’m about to do W9/R3 and my right knee has given up on me! Pain on the inside of the knee, not terrible while I’m running (always very slow!), but after an particularly before going to sleep. What do I do know? I’ve started to enjoy my running and my improved form - is this the end or will the knee get better? Taking two days rest now (R2 on Monday and next on Thursday). Also not the best of times to consult a GP and physio not yet allowed.

Hi, I have had inside knee pain throughout but it stopped me briefly in week 7. Rested it for a few days. I am on week 9 now. Mine is called pes anserine bursitis. Could be what you have? I get a bit of swelling too over the tendon. Voltarol gel helps! Wearing a support made it much worse after my run so have done away with that. There are exercises online you can do to strengthen it. I found slowing down and taking shorter strides helped. It’s playing up right now as I did 5k this morning so had to go over the 30 mins to achieve it. If you take an extra day of rest perhaps it will improve enough to get the last run in? I really hope you can do it!! 😀😀😀

I’ll definitely google that thing. I also bought this support to wear and when I told my daughter I thought it made my knee worse she didn’t quite believe that. Maybe I’ll hold off on my next run until Friday and then without the support. I’m starting to like this and I’m not ready to give up😀

Thank. I looked it up and it’s exactly the pain I have. I found the exercises - there’s hope☺️

So maybe try the next run without it- my layman’s theory is that the bursar swells up a bit whilst running but the knee support presses on it. When I stopped running to do the cool down after wearing it the pain was awful- but without it I have been much better!! My physio friend told me what I had and apparently it’s very common. It will be good for us both to get properly sorted when we can😀

The guide to the plan includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help, as well as links to the NHS sports injuries page.

Follow the PRICE principles and do not run in pain.

I always stretch after running but this knee has been painful before. I do however find it strange that the pain seems to have increased after I started running with a knee support device?

Have you been doing any strengthening exercises, as recommended in the guide to the plan?

Are you following the advice on minimising impact?
