So, this morning, I looked out on driving sideways rain, glanced at the forecast and knew that I had to give an afternoon run a try once the wind had dropped and the rain had passed through. Tomorrow is even worse!
So here I am, just back from W5R2, passing the programme half way mark at the half way bell, and feeling very pleased with myself. The first 8 minutes were challenging until I got into my stride (call that a stride, woman? Scarcely more than a bouncy shuffle). So glad I had been reminded of the toxic ten or I might have believed I couldn't do it.
But I did, and I want to encourage anyone approaching these slightly alarming sounding runs, that you can do them. Yes you can.
What astounds me is that a woman of a certain age, (has that phrase ever become a positive rather than a negative, thank you very much) who does not have a sporty back ground AT ALL, can take on this programme and succeed.
Hats off to whoever designed it.

I wondered if weather had stopped play for you it’s certainly yucky at present. I’m going tomorrow she says with fingers firmly crossed. We women of certain ages are imho the best ages and bouncy shuffles a technique to be proud of. Much better to be shuffling than to have shuffled off this mortal coil…
Well done you - congrats on being on the back half not the front although if I were a pantomime horse I’d prefer the latter
Yes, the weather, and work schedule, is messing things up a bit. I'm limited to five day options for running so it is easy to lose days if, as yesterday morning and again today, we have strong winds and rain. Sunday is my next opportunity and it looks horrible again - weather warnings and everything. So, Monday it will be.
The Couch to 5K running plan was created by Josh Clark in 1996. He developed the plan for new runners as motivation through manageable expectations. ( His Mum was his motivation to do this, apparently).
For our new runners, checking this post out may help...
My women of a certain age didn't translate into writing as it was in my head - I was thinking of its use by a certain presenter and how WoaCA came out of it pretty well. We're not afraid, we have the confidence to say it like it is. And to run when we're told we shouldn't - including running towards it, not just away.
