CATCH-up-CORNER...WEEK 2...Come on in. You can't have one, without the other!

The old song was right.... you simply, ( most of us, anyway), can't have one without the other! šŸŽ¶

Hello and welcome everyone to the corner, this slightly warmer, and for now, drier, Autumn day...!

There are warm drinks, smoothies... snacks and treats... including a particularly tasty new one for me... Apple Pie energy balls !

So grab your cushion and settle down.

Another hectic week done for me, but despite all, I did get some runs in! Not far, not fast but very useful and one particularly, a lot of fun!

I have however, been reading many of your posts and I have been really heartened to read some really positive comments, in them. The references to the way in which supporting exercises as we find when we work on our strength and stamina, have impacted, in a really positive way, their running!

Here is one of those positive posts I read this week, I am hoping that Ā RunByTheSea64 does not mind me linking it :)

Now, I am aiming the chat this week, at our NEW runners... those of you who are on the C25K programmable, for the first time... BUT, this chat is still so, so relevant to ALL of us. Non finishers, returners or repeaters! I am hoping for input from you all...

When I look back at the posts we put out on the usefulness of S and F in our running, it is really noticeable that many, many new runners, and new Graduates have no idea about supportive exercise for their running.

They have never visited our sister forum...they are suffering with all manner of niggles and twinges, and asking for advice... well...here we are!

The chat this week, had its origins started way back... and was put together by a forum friend who sadly we have not seen for a long while, Ā UnfitNoMore

NOW if you have NOT heard of the Strength and Flex Forum before... all will be revealed. If you HAVE heard of it, because you have been there before, and are a Graduate or are repeating C25K, then it will certainly be worth taking another look around.

So...

We have a great sister site right here... it is the Strength and Flex forum..

healthunlocked.com/strength...

It is all about the type of strength and stamina work that we advise our runners to do alongside their running, it is one of our very own sister forums and it is brilliant... and if you have not visited it yet... please, please, do!

The rest of our running body really needs to keep up with our legs!

Also great, if by some twist of fate, you have an injury... the ideas for keeping up our strength and stamina in those times, are very useful.

On some of our rest days, for many, many , many of us, some supportive exercise, non impact is essential.

That is what the forum is all about... and you don't need a gym, or oodles of expensive equipment to be able to participate!

You just need, Yourself, some self discipline and a lot of enthusiasm .

I have gathered a few basic links here.. beginning with the NHS site for Strength and Flex.

Many, many folk did and still do use these, alongside their running.

nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/s...

So... just moving on from that basic link... here are some more ideas for the kind of exercise many new runners ( and some more experienced), ask about.

Beginning with dynamic pre runs stretches and warm ups...

Some folk do dynamic stretches before running, some not... you find what you need and what works for you.. but any pre run work must be dynamic...

Then, after our wonderful run, however long or short... we do our post run cool down and stretching...and, again many of us find these basic stretches perfectly adequate.

I did, when I was on the S and F Forum regularly, post exercises for different parts of our running body. Every part !

Here is the link where Ā CBDB , put all those exercises together in one link...isn't she great?

healthunlocked.com/strength...

Here is the link to our super walking forum too,

healthunlocked.com/active10...

This too, is a great site because as we know, walking really is, the BEST exercise ever !

These are just my ideas and links, but there is so much more now, on the Strength and Flex forum.

So what I would really like you to do, is, to just think how important strength and stamina work is to you.

Listen to your body and note, any minor twinges, or persistent aches and pains... areas where you feel there is a need for some extra work.

Non-impact exercise on some of your rest days is essential, especially as the runs get longer, there is so, so much to choose from, and all of which can be done without the expense of a gym membership

E.g.

Yoga.

yogawithadriene.com/

Pilates

runnersworld.com/training/a...

Begin to form a regime of core strength and stamina work for yourself, keep it simple, do it on some of your rest days and it will soon become a habit... a good one

These are just a very few basic links to give you and idea of what you may find on the forum, so, please... do pay a visit, and once you are there... do take a good look around and do keep popping in too!

Okay.... Now you know and if you have not visited, at least, think about it!

We need all of you, new running friends to start taking care of your running body!

Any thoughts, welcome.... come and sit and chat and let us know if, or what, you are doing to help your running body!

Looking forward to any visitors today :)

šŸ Oh I am enjoying the Apple Pie energy balls. šŸ¤£ Very appropriate for an AnnieApplešŸ or a Ā SueAppleRun šŸŽ

Mulling over all the helpful advice and links the one thing that shines through is we need to be determined to follow through with our choices of exercise. Itā€™s often easier to run than to be consistent with our cross training or exercise routines. Sometimes we need to be creative about how we go about making it a habit!!! Itā€™s no good starting on a weekend morning when the rest of the week you are rushing out the door early.

For me the early morning is best so I find it helpful to put my mat out ready with my baked beans tins.. Signals my intent ā€¦ I am already expecting to exercise when I wake up. Helpful advice in the past from you Ā Oldfloss Link doing squats to cleaning your teeth ie combining the new intended habit to an established oneā€¦

Thank you as ever for all the thought you put into this corner to help us take care of our running bodies all summed up in the words on the photo!! šŸ˜

Hello and welcome to you... yes, I thought of you when the recipe for the Apple Pie, energy balls popped up!

Yu are of course correct, and it is something I have felt and talked about in many posts. You have to be determined to follow through. and for me, also. I feel if it is something we are able to enjoy...that helps too!

As you say, time can be limited... a 20 minute work out only works, if you have the twenty minutes... ! Choose a workout you can manage.. and be prepared to tweak too !

Signaling your intent... I like that ! Like putting your gear put the night before... knowing you are going to do it!

Sit back a while and relax now... and thank you so much for calling in and sharing your thoughts and tips! x
