Catch -Up-Corner... last days of JULY... Come on in and rest awhile....

Morning running people...

Here I am , about to close the door on the Corner until September...

Grab a cushion, choose a snack and sit right down... Fresh pastries, some great smoothies and of course, croissants and coffee.

I apologise for being noticeable by my absence these last few days... but Mr OF had a heart attack last week and well, my feet have not touched since ! He is physically, very, very well... Wednesday heart attack...Thursday evening , cardiac procedure and Friday afternoon... home! Mentally, he and we, the family, are pretty exhausted and so are resting now and catching our breath.

But, I have been popping in and out of the forum and watching all your running adventures... and wow!

New graduates, returning runners, repeaters and everything in between ! You are all doing wonderfully!

I am not running at the moment but the number of steps over the last few weeks, up and down stairs and along long, long hospital corridors... well, I feel I am getting plenty of core strength and stamina work in!

Life is going to be a little different for a while...but, using the words of a last Catch up Corner. we have to use the three A's..

When the situation changes, when something throws us off track, we simply have to try, to take some gentle deep breaths, let the shoulders drop, and...

Acknowledge, Accept and Adapt .

So... your turn now, catch your breath, and share, please, with us what has been happening to you over these last few days.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Oldfloss x

Hi Oldfloss - so sorry to hear about Mr OF heart attack - what a shock for you all.

Just to say that I have now had my op and recovered and have begun the Cto5K once again :), glad to be back on the fluffy cushion in cosy corner with my coffee and croissant and hopefully will be well on the way back to fitness by the time we are all back in September. Take it easy, looking after yourself is important when you are looking after someone else. xx

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toMothmoss

Good to see you and op all done too! Back on track again...! That's wonderful!

Being kind to ourselves is so important and we do sometimes struggle with that don't we?

Thanks for popping in x

I really like the three A’s. I am trying to adapt to my husband’s neurological changes. It is really challenging. Love your writing.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply toRunawayfast

Hello and welcome... Yes, those three words, easy to say but not always easy to do.. Changes of any kind and especially when it concerns those we love are perhaps the most challenging of all.

Stay a while and just take time for you c

Sending love to you OF, what a shock for you all. Get well wishes to MOF- glad to hear he is on the mend after all appropriate cares.

I love your mindset- very strong , but please make sure you pencil in some time for you- when you feel able, being head nurse is a stressful position ❤️.

Hesty ( 🐾) and I attempt R3 week five later - after a week filled with thing’s determined to get in the way of us getting out the door . ( maybe some of it in my head with the longer runs).

Or I may actually try to run with out him today. The extended period of no sniffs might tip him over the edge - we shall see - his attention span is improving but he’s still a cocker and the sniffs are life !! The Daughter has suggested taking him for a walk and a pup cup 🍦so he may have a better offer !

I shall let you know how it pans out .

Love to you and your family xxxx

Thank you so much for this... it is good to know we are amongst friends.. . I shall find time for myself... I shall write and I shall paint too !

Hopefully you did get out today and it was successful outing? Maybe the run pleased the little fella too?

Do please, let us know x

Saltychip profile image

Thank you, it was a successful outing for one !

My fluffy friend ( whilst I am sure he would consider it a success) went for the Sunday afternoon experience with the daughter - and a pup cup. Doggy ice cream! Xx

Hi OF I’ve just popped my head round the door to wish your husband a speedy recovery. It does sound like he is doing well and that is really great news. I hope you manage to find some time to rest up yourself too as that sounds like such a stressful time. I love the three As and will put them into action at the next opportunity.

The coffee and the croissants were most welcome this morning, thank you... Good to just sit on this cushion here and just chill for a while too!

Mr OF is just having a little nap too... the last three days have finally caught up with him, and all of us I think...He had his daily walk this morning... and felt just great, as the consultant said he would...

I think I shall be doing a few walks when I get chance to get out there again!

The runs will come when they’re ready. They will peacefully and patiently wait. The main thing now is to look after everything that’s important-that’s is you and your family. We are all here to support you as you process what’s happened and adapt to all the changes. Unlimited virtual hugs available (and snacks too!).

Thinking of you ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks for such a lovely reply! The walks and runs are still going well. I had a bit of a panic that I was behind on my plan for September’s Great North Run but I realised I’ve accidentally skipped a week ahead in my diary so I’m just where I want to be. With a week where running will be super tricky coming up, I might need to have a good think about how to fit the long runs in. I’ll definitely need to acknowledge what I can actually manage and not beat myself up or worry about it-accepting and adapting will be the key. Such a timely reminder-really appreciated. It’s amazing how the skills and knowledge we get from running help us in so many areas of life.

Really hoping it’s a positive week for Team Oldfloss ❤️

I’ve come to visit and be with friends for a bit. Sorry to hear about your husbands heart attack Oldfloss, wishing him a speedy recovery and he’s in good hands with you. Make sure you take care of yourself too! Hugs for you both! 💜🥰💜

I’ve been having a bowel flare up since Wednesday and not been able to run at all…sad face! Said goodbye to my wee cat on Tuesday night, there was nothing vets could do so he had to cross the rainbow bridge. Was a very very sad moment for me and I hit the junk/comfort food hard which resulted in bowel flare up, totally my own fault 🙈 and also stress too 🤷‍♀️ been feeling quite down but I’ll be fixing that with a run in morning….

Acknowledge. Accept. Adapt. 👍

Anyhoo!! I’ve been resting up and making sure my bowels are settled and better, so I’ll be back to running tomorrow morning. It will be my first consolidation run after graduating and I’m just going to run free for 30mins and see how that feels. I’ve missed the running so much and also being out in the early morning with no one but nature!

I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday xx

I feel strange today as its the first Sunday I haven't run for a while (could be first time this year or more) because I have a 10k event tomorrow evening after work.

I am meant to be doing cross training and cant be asked as it's not the best outside. So I've basically been hiding in here most of the day and I'm going to continue hiding here for another while until I have to go up into the attic and clear a bit of space.

All the best to Mr. OF.

Oh Floss - sending all my positive thoughts to you both. I remember when my own husband had to have medical treatment, he was a very tetchy patient because he is normally so fit and healthy. Trying times!

I shall plonk myself in a corner with a coffee, feeling very virtuous today because I have quietly started yet again, and I am at the end of week2. My legs feel very heavy for the first run then by the end I actually feel like I could keep going. I don't of course, that would be foolish!

Enjoy your walks with Mr OF. 💕

Oh my! How did I miss this yesterday? Bestest wishes to Mr OF. To have turned around so quickly must have meant that the procedure must have been minimally invasive. (Unlikely to have been a quad CABG.) Of course, in present medical climate they want in-patients to linger for as least time as possible to minimise infection and free up beds.

The weather and other factors have meant I haven't been doing as much mileage as I'd like. And then when I plan a long run (yesterday) it only goes and rains heavily when I'm just over half way through it. I got cold whilst waiting for the rain to ease and had to throw in the towel and call to be picked up.

One BIG stent in a major artery... In Wednesday...monitored over night... and procedure , took an hour, late Thursday... home Friday afternoon with a whole stack of new pills.

This weather is playing havoc with a few folks' runs and getting that wet can be singularly unpleasant... well done for getting out there..

Well that was a surprise and not of the good kind. Sorry to hear that news but the treatment sounds exemplary and return home so soon after too is good to hear.
