Good morning runners! After a lazy weekend and working yesterday, I woke up nice and early this morning and couldn't wait to get my kit on and head out for a run.
I'd describe the morning as fresh and autumnal, could see the leaves falling from the trees and large V's of geese heading off on there journeys.
80s music again (getting a change next run! 😂)
Few stretches, warm up walk, off I went.
Km1 felt ok but plodding legs felt quite heavy and didn't feel like I could pick it up much.
Km2 more of the same but a little quicker.
Km3 I realised that I wasn't settling in to this run, it felt tough and wasn't getting easier. By the end of it I was really tired.
Km4 I could feel myself slowing and my energy levels really dropping, just kept going the best I could.
The final half a km or so to the end of the 28 mins was frankly rough 😂 my form dipped and my breathing was all over the place. Legs like lead BUT drove on to the end and was VERY grateful when Crammy told me to slow to a walk.
Hard work today but happy I got out and did it!

🍏Starting these longer runs can be tough, but the fact that you’re out there pushing through it is a huge win. Those heavy legs and that breathlessness are signs that you’re challenging your body in ways it hasn’t experienced before. Remember, every runner—no matter how experienced—has been exactly where you are now. Many of us experience what we call the toxic ten, when the first 10mins feels very tough. It pays to start easily & slowly 🐌 🐢
Your muscles are learning to adapt, and your lungs are building up endurance. With each step, you’re getting stronger, and soon those feelings will start to fade. Take it more slowly, be patient with yourself, and celebrate every bit of progress. Before you know it, those heavy legs will feel lighter, and your breath will come easier.
Well done you.... maybe a few more than , "..a few stretches". could be helpful and putting in some more S and F work too, on some of your rest days. The running body needs all the help it can get!
