Week 4 Run 1 done.....

Hey everyone.....

I did it. Ran for the dreaded 5 minutes. Well more like a snails pace jog. I'm alittle frustrated right now though. Had the same tightness at the front of my shins again. At one point I felt to give in. Not because I was out of breathe or anything as I wasn't but just the tightness at the front of my lower legs.

I'm happy that I completed this run as I was wondering if I could do it. I now know I can and it wasn't that bad at all. Only thing that spoilt it in my eyes was my shins. If it wasn't for the tightness, I felt I could've jogged alittle faster. Took no time at all for my breathing to recover at the end but a good few minutes of cool down walking for my shins to loosen up. I really hope this doesn't continue as it's putting a dampen on my joy.

On the bright side the tightness doesn't last. After my lower legs recover during the cool down walk, they're fine again. I know I'm getting fitter, running longer and soon I'll be able to jog the entire perimeter of this playing field without stopping.

Tomorrow is another day as they say, so I won't worry too much.

Anyway off for my usual walk now and then home for breakfast. Roll on Friday for week 4 Run 2.

Have a lovely day all.x

It *could* be the way you are running -- I got tightness in my shins when I accidentally pulled my toes up with every step, like just before landing. Letting them flop as I kind of just rolled forward was much better. Try consciously relaxing that foot that's in the air. You can also have a kind of shoe that promotes toe lifting a bit but see how you get on.

Also great job on the 5 min run!

It's amazing how something so seemly simple can be so technical. Breathing, shoulders back, head up, 90 degree bend at elbows, no stomping,no bouncing. Oh I don't know what I'm doing wrong (if I'm doing anything wrong at all). Will remember what you have said on frIday when I do my next run. Fingers crossed it's just because the runs are getting longer and nothing major.

I just use the mantra "relax, relax, relax" -- the more relaxed I am, the better the run seems to go, the better my breath is, the less I mess up my back and legs. Like, just have fun and let it be!
