Running reading recommendations, please πŸ“š ..and week 5 run 3 fear!

Good morning, good runners! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I’m gearing up for the final run of week 5 this evening and it’s the least confident I’ve been about making it through a run. A solid 20 minutes feels like a big step up! πŸ₯΅

Does anyone have any good book recommendations to accompany the beginner runner journey? Looking for reading which is more motivational / focused on benefits than anything too technical. What have you enjoyed or found helpful? πŸ“–

🍏 If you are wanting up to the minute running advice magazines such as Runners World or Women’s Running can be borrowed from your local library both online or in person. You can also buy one from a newsagent and then subscribe. In the meantime we have links on our pinned posts above to lots of information.

Do relax and enjoy your 20min run this evening. Take it slowly & know all the runs have prepared you for this one. Your body is ready but sometimes our heads take time to catch up! It’s not life or death or a race it’s you going out in your trainers for a short run. You can definitely do this! I am sure you will be posting here tomorrow to tell us just that! πŸ‘

I’m at exactly the same point and am going to try it today after repeating the 8 minute runs six times. It does seem like a big jump doesn’t it? Just going to try, thinking music will help and not judging myself too harshly if I have to stop! Good luck

For a great read about running and life in general, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami. It's more about the running mindset and life, it's not a how-to but there's lots of food for thought.

I gave myself an extra rest day (I needed it!), but got the run done tonight - made it through the 20 mins and very happy with myself! First 5 mins were the hardest πŸ˜…

If you enjoy Born to Run (recommended by Old Floss), you might follow it up with Natural Born Heroes by the same author - it's not about running exclusively but has a more general focus on all-round fitness.
