Crawled for 30 mins but did it!

Hi everyone. Well, after my week away last week, I went out again this morning, and did manage to do 30mins, though whether one would actually call it running, I have my doubts. But now I have a question please. Much as I have enjoyed Steve Cram keeping me going through the C25K app, is there anything out there that will give me the same info, ie when to stop the pre-run walk, when half way is, when 30 mins are up - rather than keep having to listen to SC each week? And what does everyone advise - keep doing the 30mins for now, and then after ?? attempt to keep going until 5K is reached. I have no idea how far I run now, it's probably not much more than 3K if I'm honest. But I don't want to push myself yet to get to 5K...?? As always, all advice most welcome. Thank you.

🍏🤩 Straight back into a 30 min run after a holiday sounds like a determined runner to me! How slowly you run is never an issue! Have you ever looked at the free Nike Run Club App? NRC Many of us use it as there are so many different guided runs to choose from. Look on your Apps to find it!

Will post a link as well to guide you through this consolidation phase.

Congratulations! 30 minutes in this heat is no mean feat. Well done!

What’s next? It’s totally up to you. What would you like to do? Are you enjoying doing 30 minutes every time? Would you like to mix things up? Is hitting 5k a personal goal for you? I’d take a bit of time to think about what you want from your running and that will guide where you go next. There’s no right or wrong answer and nothing is set in stone forever. It’s what you want to do now. What a great position to be in!

I also use the Nike Run Club app. That won’t give you a 5 minute walk up but there are loads of runs of different lengths and types available, if you don’t want commentary, the non guided option will tell you when you’re halfway.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do next! Don’t let the name put you off, but you’d be very welcome to come over to Bridge to 10k which has a weekly quest where people set their own personal goals. You may well find that your running is very similar to lots of us over there! Come and say hi when you’re ready..,

There’ll be a new quest coming on August 1st if you’re interested in joining in,

Thank you for your advice. I was out at 7.15, so before the heat set in. I suppose I only thought about the 5K because the app is called Couch to 5K. I used to run far longer distances, but am simply running now to keep reasonably fit as I get older - I'm in my mid 60s. I'll have a look at the Nike Run Club app, thank you both for your advice on that one. Bridge to 10K sounds interesting - I did do a 10K run a long time ago, but I'm not interested in getting that far nowadays, simply want to keep active. I'll have a look see.

Nike run club app is really good, there's some great coaching on there too. I have a Garmin to keep track of my times and distances, there pricey but theres a lot of perfectly good budget fitness trackers out there.

Ive now downloaded the Nike app, but can't see how to make it do anything, other than the plan it presents me with initially. I shall persevere. Thank you.

If you look at the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a button called “run”. If you click that, it will bring a screen with “QuickStart” and “guided runs” at the top. Click “guided runs” and that’s where the runs with commentary are found.

Thanks so much for that. But is there anywhere I can create my own run, ie timed 30mins, with a notification when I'm half way? Thank you for your help. The app isn't self evident I don't think!

If you click “QuickStart” and then “set a goal” below the big blue button, you can choose a time goal and it will automatically tell you half way through.

Found it, thanks, but now I can't find a way to save it....?

When you’ve typed your goal in, it should appear above the “start” button. It’ll stay the same unless you change it-does that make sense? For example, when I press Quick start, a large 00:30 mins is displayed. If I clicked on the 00:30 mins, I could change it.

If I wanted a distance goal instead, I’d click “time” just below the start button, select “distance” and input how far I wanted to go,

Yes, I get that, but then how do I save that a run to be used again - or do I just have to go through the same process each time?

You have to enter it every time-at least it’s quick!

OK, that's fine. Thanks.

Park Run! It keeps me honest and gets my weekends off to a great start.

I'd have to walk to the train station, catch a train, then walk to the Parkrun. Too much hassle. If it was near me, I'd do it, but not going to all that faff when I can just run from home!

Well done. There's no feeling like it.

NRC is great or, if you use Garmin, you can create you own runs in Garmin Connect. 5mins - 30mins - 5mins, etc. There are routes on there too or create your own.

If you are comfortable with 30 mins, why not try the extra guided runs on the C25K app that are unlocked when you finish the 9 week programme. I find them really helpful and repeat them every so often. The Bridge is great though - definitely consider tip toeing across there!

Wow, I never knew about those. I've finished the 9wk programme twice now, but not realised these existed. Thank you, I'll have a search.

I didn't know about them either - they are a new feature I only just discovered when I repeated the programme recently. You need to update the app to see them.

well done for getting back on it. I used the NRC App for a bit but now I just have my run playlist. I kinda know where I am by the song playing and I have a five minute track to start to for the warm up walk. I know when Axl screeches Rocket Queen I’m almost done ! Like you I’m in my 60’s and this is all about my health and overall fitness not times and distances. I imagine your music choices are unlikely to be the same as mine but I mix up the beat and pace a bit which helps
