Drain cover stops play....

Well, I've joined all you lovely runners sitting on the injury couch. A raised drain cover with a bit of pavement missing around the corner of it, and over I went....sprained shoulder, grazed and bruised elbows and knees, and a nastily turned ankle. My foot has blown up like a balloon and is all colours...no photos, no need for that...

The sad thing is, I have 2.2 KM left on my Conqueror Bangkok challenge, I was looking forward to knocking that off today with a NRC intervals run. Never mind, it will wait for me....

Have fun HU-ers, have a run for me.

Oh Curlygurly, Not really 'liking' your post, sorry to hear about your nasty fall.

Hope icing and elevating help with that swelling...

Just like a runner to be more bothered about missed challenges than the injury. 😚😚😚

Take good care and heal soon 🌹🌻🌹xxx

I was so close!! 2.2 KM!! I could almost see that medal in my hands! I'll get there... a short distance will be perfect for when I feel up to it.

Oh no!!! A similar thing happened to me 18 months ago. Foot verses drain cover equals an and e. You absolutely have my sympathy. Sending massive virtual hugs and best wishes for your recovery ❤️‍🩹

Thank you MissU.. I've had a few of these trips, so getting used to them now! Unfortunately my local A & E is not exactly local, I reckon if I can walk on it, it isn't broken (famous last words!)

Sorry to read this.. so frustrating. Hope it’s not too painful and wishing you a speedy recovery and return to running. 🤗

Thank you PeggySusi, the hard part is being sensible and not going out again too soon.

Definitely.. usually my downfall is going when I’m really not fit/too tired.. and I don’t seem to learn from it! 🤣

I can't get my shoes on at the moment, that will be a fair indicator of when I can go out again, when I can get my runners on!

Oh no CG, no fair!. It's too easy to tumble. Hopefully ypu will heal fast and be back out there soon. In the meantime enjoy the rest and maybe do some race research while you wait. Sending very best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thank you Linda, I always feel I am the only one that has these trips but of course it could happen to anyone. I've got Race For Life to look forward to, that's always a nice little race.

Having fallen on the canal towpath and bitten through my lip plus scrapes and bruises; and fallen in the woods and smashed my two front teeth, injured my hand (that took months to heal) and even bruised my boobs! - I know you're not the only one. Sadly.

Oh bless you! This is not my first fall either... I've fallen down the stairs 2 or 3 times, tripped on nothing at all and sprained the other ankle, and tripped on another drain cover during lockdown. That was a bad one, I mashed my glasses into my face, split my lip, got a black eye... people were just stepping over me.. eventually two plain clothes police officers stopped and helped. I had to go to hospital for that one. They glued my eyebrow together, I didn't know that was possible.

I have Meniere's Disease, a nasty little condition that affects balance and causes dizzy spells, I reckon that's most of the problem. Usually I'm not even running when I fall.

Oh my lord, that sounds nasty. Both my falls were running!!!

My specialist says running helps, improves spatial awareness or something, goodness knows what I'd be like if I didn't run!

what a pain, I hope you recover quickly. If you haven't already done so, it might be worth reporting the drain cover to the local council's highways department so they can get it sorted.

Thank you Leotigris. I intend to, just as soon as I can hobble over there again and take a photo.

Oh no CG!!! I’m sorry to read this. I really hope you won’t be too long on the IC and that you won’t feel too bruised afterwards.

Here’s a bunch of flowers for you 💐 xxx
