W7R1: dog stops play

I run with my dog (a former stray Staffie about 6 years old) and up to now she's been fine but when I got towards 20 minutes/3 km she started to drop further and further behind (she's usually ahead). I stopped and waited for her to catch up two or three hundred metres but she wasn't exactly sprinting it. Anyway, she clearly wasn't happy so we walked the next km and then to make up for it a bit we did a couple of one minute sprints which are more to her taste. I'm going to tick it off anyway and carry on to R2.

Maybe she’s jealous because you’re doing better than she is ?

Good job. Some breeds aren’t built for speed, or maybe she’s not used to it yet. Enjoy run 2.

She's pretty quick when chasing birds across the racecourse! Nowhere near quick enough to catch them though :) I think it's more the sustained running that does for her.

Yeah, that’s what I meant... Staffies are very porwerful on the sprint, which would be part of what they were bred for. She may just not feel comfortable going over a few minutes.

Something like a Dalmatian will outrun Kipchoge and still want some more!

Horses for courses, kinda! If you go on to following plans after this, there will be plenty of runs that will suit her alongside the long ones for you... she’d love 400m rest and repeat no doubt.

Think you've done well to take her this far!! I took my cocker spaniel on the W1R1 but his toilet stops put me off the idea! 😂 Felt guilty at first leaving him behind but I'm now taking him on a 5 mile walk everyday to try and make up for it. Best of luck with R2 maybe it might be time to go it solo?

Maybe, or maybe just not take her for a 5 mile walk in the morning before running in the afternoon.

It's OK running with your 🐶 if the dog doesn't mind running 🏃 along with it's owner.😊 There is a man near to where I live runs practically every day, I think about a 10k at what looks to me at 40/45 minutes pace with his collie dog, the dog to me doesn't look the worst for it's

run with his owner.

Yes, collies will run forever! My dog pretends not to see them, she picks on slower breeds to play chase with ;)

I borrow a hound but he will only run when he feels like it. So I’ve given up on planned runs, and instead just take him for a walk and I run when he does 😃🐕
