it’s been, in equal parts, a long time coming and also it sneaked up on me. I woke this morning at 7, closed my eyes for a minute and woke again at 9.40!! This keeps happening lately… my new pillows are the bomb!!
So by the time I gathered my wits ( they took some finding!) , got my gear sorted and did a few stretches and actually got out the door it was nearly 10.30!!! And really warm!!! I’d started with a long sleeve honeycomb waffle top but popped back in and changed to a thinner short sleeve top and that was a wise move. Did my 5 mins brisk walk and was struggling a bit, then started running and it was like wading through treacle!! Couldn’t understand it until I realised I hadn’t done my inhaler before I left the house !!! So I slowed right down from “flipping slow” to “ snail with a sore foot” and carried on.
I headed towards the Trail first then changed my mind and kept to the pavement, on the sunny side, of the the main road out of town. I carried on along there until I had done my 15 minute halfway and then crossed the road to the Industrial Estate and ran through there and out to the Trail that way. …. Past the local segment know as “ the smell of fish and poo” and today it lived up to its name!! It’s a local shellfish prep factory and some days it’s worse than others to get downwind of it. And then back towards the town. There was a lot of grass cutting going on and I was glad I’d got my sunnies on, which saved me from the worst of it, but still had the snuffles and sneezies most of the day since I got back.
There were a couple of times when I didn’t think I was going to finish it without a walk but I did and, strangely, the last 5 minutes were the easiest. My lungs must have finally decided “ well she’s not going back for the inhaler so we’d better just get on with it”. And then I was walking back home , glad I’d run after all.
I know I’ve completed this programme several times now but it still gives me a sense of pride to have got this far again.
