I excelled myself this morning with a pre 5 am run! It was still warm, but only 11 degrees so it made running a little easier.
This run being 28 minutes, I walked further up the hill before I started running, to account for the extra 3 minutes added onto my route. I then started running down the hill. Must have been half asleep or concentrating on the Viking podcast, but I looked up and didn’t know where I was! I’d gone to the trouble of crossing a road to go down a different hill!
No way was I going to stop running to find out where I should go next, so I just carried on towards the town until I recognised something. 🤣
The run itself was happily uneventful and it was good to run so early and hear the birdsong. I started very slowly and speeded up gradually. Good to cover 3K at last on this run. I’m not concerned about my slow pace, maybe I’ll speed up later after I’ve graduated. (Maybe I won’t!).

Too hot for porridge? Wash your mouth out with soap Jools2020 !!! 🤣Sounds like a lovely early morning run and what better way to start the day than with birdsong.
Gosh i wish i could get up that early, i am trying to train myself to wake up and get out the door earlier, but i woke at 7am this morning and I got out at 8am as usual with all my running gear on, but was so tired as i go to bed too late and it was hot so i just had an hour walk today, I don't want to loose the fitness i had built up since graduating from C25K 3 months ago Soooo on my next planned run this Friday i will try an set my alarm for 6 am to at least be out of the door at 7 am.... all you early early birds are spurring me on to at least try, i might be blind with sleep in my eyes but at least it will be cooler and i can actually run 😀
I was actually half awake at 4, so I kind of rolled out of bed and just put my running clothes on which were ready and waiting! It helps to have everything organised. I wasn’t fully awake which is how I got a bit lost! I could still run, though.
At one stage I looked at my watch and saw my pace, which was something like 5:30! I thought ‘my goodness - I’m flying this morning!’ Turns out I was looking at the time, not my pace 🤣
I usually wake up around 6 - 6.30 but it takes me a while to feel awake then get up at 7am and out the door at 8am after sorting dogs and doing pre-run dynamic stretches, maybe like you i should roll out of bed .....literally.... and get my gear on straight away then maybe i can be out of the door by at least 7-7.30 but thats still not as early as you, maybe i should get up at 6am as soon as i open my eyes, roll out of bed, trip over things coz i can;t see anything as my eyes wont be open then and try and get out of the door at 6.30........oh gosh!!! 🤣🤣🤣
i am going to really try on Friday (which is my next run day) to get up at 6.30 and be out of the door at 7 or at the very latest 7.30 (so that will be at least an hour/half hour earlier) and if i can do that then aim for getting up at 6am and out of the door by 6.30-7am once i have got used to getting up earlier......blimey that's hard work in itself all that training just to get up out of bed earlier 🤣
Great stuff. We'll done you. Try overnight oats for your porridge fix in hot weather. The night before I pour 50g of oats into a container and add 180-200 ml milk and put in the fridge. In the morning add toppings of your choice and eat (no cooking or heating up). I love adding banana and seeds and nuts. Or blueberries and strawberries. Whatever you fancy it's delicious.
Can't tell you how impressed I am with these early starts, it must feel fantastic. Did giggle at the thought of you 'getting lost'! My physio says she should get me back running in 3 to 4 weeks so fingers crossed 🤞. In the meantime I have started yoga, the jury is still out.....
Well done 🙂 That sounds like a great time to run when tye weather has been so warm.I'm starting week 8 on my next run. Struggled with the heat on my last run but would be lying to myself if I said I was gonna set the alarm and get out super early.
I was going to run yesterday evening but it was just too hot, so I ran this morning - at what I thought was the crack of dawn. 6.50AM certainly felt like it to me! It's incredible you were running at 5AM! I banged my head on the doorframe, forgot to shave, and felt so disorientated at the time that I went running. And it still felt too warm! But that's week 8 run 2 done for me I think I need to get up sooner on Saturday but I don't know how on earth I will manage that
Yesterday was a few degrees cooler, but the difference between 5am and 6am wasn’t much! Think I’ll stick to 6am.
No need to give yourself concussion though! Get up at a sensible time for you and allow sone time to wake up! .I always have a cuppa no matter what the time. Drink plenty the day before and just slow down. Try to run in the shade.
