On week 7 of couch to 5k! Managed 25 minutes without stopping so quite happy with that. Hard going for the first 15 minutes though! Any tips?

Congratulations to you TanyaToby on completing run 1 of week 7 of C25K, 25 minutes, perhaps you could run the second run of week 7 a little slower than you did the first time, that way you won't feel just as tired.

Thank you. I’ll try that 😊

Start slower, and beware of the Toxic Ten, i.e. that 1st 10 mins or so that it takes for our bodies warm-up when doing exercise - it's a real and very well known effect.

TOP TIP: the more effective your warm-up beforehand, the less 'toxic' your Toxic 10 will be 😎

🍏 Good advice already given Tanya but just to say well done! 👏 To get to these longer runs you have put in many weeks of hard work & you are well prepared. Now you can relax & enjoy them. As already said run slowly and you will have enough left in the tank to finish the run! This was the week it suddenly hit me that I was really a runner & I fell in love! 🥰

Knowing about the toxic ten (or fifteen!) was a total game changer for me. Just being able to tell myself that it would get better as I warmed up and wouldn’t feel like that for the whole run meant it didn’t seem quite as bad.

You’re doing great-just keep it up!

Thank you. Actually did 5k tonight with my local running club! Thanks for your advice. I shall remember this

That’s super news! Running with a buddy (or a whole club of buddies!) can be a great distraction while you’re warming up through the toxic ten. I bet that distance felt like a great achievement!

Hiya, not experienced enough to give tips but wanted to say, massive congrats on completing your run. I'm going to read the tips cos I expect I'll experience it the same way you did. Thank you for the inspiration of keeping going even when it's tough!

Congratulations

I dealt with the up and coming runs by thinking, 'sure it's only another couple of minutes'. Next thing I knew - W9 R3 :-)
