Over the last 4.5 weeks, that's how it is since I've last been able to run due to my knee injury, I've not been able to fill the hole left by not being able to run.I'd promised myself that if I could run today then I was going to stop, get referred to a specialist and not run again until they gave me the all clear.
So this morning I got ready, jumped on the treadmill and loaded up the C25K app and selected week 5 run 1 thinking that 5 minutes should be the minimum I should be aiming for.
I didn't even get to start jogging.
No, I wasn't in pain, not even a niggle, I had an attack of being sensible, it could have been the first one ever, the feeling was so strange.
I dropped the run back to week 1 run 1 and hit start.
I did the first minute at a sedate pace and then played it by ear throughout the remaining run sections, even doing a couple at 12kph.
All without pain or having to stop.
So, I quit the IC, I'll try to remain sensible and left my knee work it's way back to full strength and not hit it too hard in the gym.
Maybe now I'll stop feeling sorry for myself.
Happy running everyone!

Well done LeeU. For listening to your sensible and for experimenting gently. There are some situations where rest means doing nothing, and others where it means doing something else, and others where it means doing the thing gently. It’s long been a discussion point amongst my climbing friends of rest vs climb. Often, we find we can climb through injury and it helps with rehabilitation, so long as we take it very easy. Sometimes, of course, rest IS best. It sounds like you are experimenting with what works for you and so far, so good. I’m really glad the clouds are disappearing from your horizon!
Hi 'Floss, as the song goes 'Baby it's cold outside', so I'm on the treadmill for now, obviously as the weather changes I'm hoping that changes to but I'm not pushing anything at the minute when it comes to running.
Even if it means keeping in the lower weeks runs for 2-3 months while the strength returns fully in the joint I'm happy to do that because I'm back running.
That sounds so good. I was just curious because I know that you used to run outdoors. Not pushing is a great plan... after Mr OF had his heart attack, life was so tumultuous that I could not get out there at all and everything depended on just moving in some way!
I got back to it... eventually repeating C25K, but then the dreadful weather, the cold , as you say, impacts... add appointments for Mr OF... and I have only just got back to 5K again ! On Sunday!
You are doing so well... and you know the form as well as I ? Slow and steady...of course x
