Hello you lovely bunch of runners! Happy new year to you all…I sincerely hope you all had a lovely festive season and are coming back in January full of determination and positivity…that’s what’s happens in January right?? Well…that’s how I started 2024…on W7r3 last time I ran on the 4th but that run was absolute pants so my determination took a real nosedive!
This morning was the start of the new year, new me (again) still searching for that cruise body that’s hiding in there somewhere!! So I dropped my youngest at school & got myself down to the towpath…my favourite place to run, I honestly know it like the back of my hand!!! Like I said, my last run was awful…but…I was full of festive food and drinks, late nights & excuses so def not the best fuel I needed…I didn’t take all that I to consideration this morning when I headed out, I just thought that maybe I needed to go back to week 6 and build up yet again…doing the running and walking, thinking that’s all I would manage. When I got there, I changed my mind..I pressed w8r1 because I looked at the towpath, the weather was perfect (if you’re me or a duck) so I decided to just get on with the programme…and guess what???? Yes, you’re right…I ran the whole 28 mins non stop…I got into my rhythm after about 5 minutes & just ran until Steve spoke to me…every time…2 1/2 mins…5 mins…7 1/2 mins…10 mins…before I knew it I was halfway there…so I turned around and just kept going…my pace wasnt fast but i didnt realise until i started running how much i needed this run…not just for the headspace but just to prove to myself that head and legs don't always agree…here was the Yorkshire grit that I have inside me that just makes me keep going, keep batting on…no matter what , I dig my heels in and keep going..I didn’t switch off because I was listening to podcasts relating to my work but the time flew…
I really, really enjoyed this run because it was so unexpected…I had resigned myself to something less but when I got there all that went out of the window because my legs won over my head…so just because you have one bad run doesn’t always mean you have to take a step back…just keep pushing forwards and see what happens…afterwards my stretches felt so good, stretching is such an important part of running it was like a reward to my muscles that I’d worked hard…
Happy running everyone..just smile and enjoy yourself x
