Motivation sought

I was wobbling on not running tonight, and doing it tomorrow, should have run yesterday but couldn’t, so not feeling it at all tonight.

Searched for ‘motivation’ and it brought up Jay66uk post from a month ago with lots of good advice given to him.

So I set off around a streets I haven’t run before to mix it up and so I could have a good nose in their front gardens 😜

Realised at about ~9 mins that I hadn’t automatically thought ‘6 times more to go’ when 5 mins was called (still got Sarah) - the running was ok, apart from a hot flush just to top the 24 degrees and make it feel like 34! 🍅

Got to the end and started the warm down walk and decided there was too far to walk home so ran until the end of the 5 mins warm down - which took me to 35mins (1 of which was walked) and 4km - still had about a km for a cool down walk. Felt really slow but it was in fact just my usual type of slow, not slower - sweltering by the end mind! 💦

First time I’ve run 4K - so just need keep pushing a bit to get to 5. That’s goal number 1 for now.

You are very welcome. I knew that you’d need it a month later so I deliberately engineered a wobble for you to benefit from.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

It was ok, my legs felt tired but my breathing was ok and my gremlins behaved - thank you

Great effort finding motivation and doing a new distance. Hot flushes can have mean timing can’t they! Onwards to that 5k goal... 😃🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️❤️

Yes they seem to be coming thick and fast at the moment - in the winter they’ll help warm me up though - just need to keep 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️

Well done you when you don't want to go out it is so hard to find the energy to get in the right mind set. You should be pleased and slightly smug cause you did it.

Those hot flushes are total OMG moments. I hate them. You ran through yours so more smugness is allowed.

😅😅

Thanks! They rush at you like a train. I’ve written a list of reasons to run - getting rid of this relatively new menopause belly is one of them! Exercise is supposed to help with symptoms they reckon 🤞

Not sure how much it helped, but when I used to get hot flushes quite badly I also tried eating more whole foods, particularly stuff like linseed (a plant oestrogen source). And when looking into weight gain after menopause, I found some programmes seemed to claim hormonal changes mean we don’t use carbs as well, so I started eating higher protein instead. I thankfully seem to be past the whole phase now, hopefully it won’t last for too long for you either. I did start exercising more too, so maybe that played a part as well. Not sure.🤞❤️

Thanks - I’m veggie so high protein is harder (do occasionally eat fish) - perhaps I’ll try keep carbs to lunchtime. I probably rely on them too much.

Funny enough we eat nearer to veggie these days anyway. I mainly started eating tonnes of nuts and seeds. I soon discovered all the whole grains are far higher in protein than their processed versions too. When people at the gym grabbed their high protein whey shakes soon after exercise, I grabbed a few handfuls of mixed Morrison’s nuts from a bag instead! You’d guess that was high fat and calories, but with exercise I still lost 1.5 stones and got down to my teenage weight again. So it seemed to work. (Nuts are tastier and cheaper than that whey protein stuff!)

I have found if I wobble in the mornings I am less likely to be a hormonal grumpy mare the rest of the day! Well that's the theory, I am not sure it works. My family are sitting on the fence as to if it is being successful. Could be they are to scared to comment. 😂😂😂😂

😂 that’s very possible, best not to! I find I’ve lost my filter! Whoosh I’ve said exactly what’s on my mind 😳😬

Well done Critter, another milestone met. Keep up the good work 👏👍

Are you keeping track of your runs somehow?

Crittermad profile image

I use my Fitbit charge 2 to track - which gives you a distance, time, pace for each km and a little map - but have listed them on a sheet so you can see the times change slowly over the weeks

I like your style! I miss ticking the runs off on the app, but I'm a fan of (obsessively) recording them somewhere 😬😂
