I graduated last May, but had to stop running due to a groin strain (that wasn't from running). I have done a lot of regular walking and starting running again intermittently. I was running up to 1km distances so thought week 1 would be quite easy - boy was I wrong. Admittedly all the running I have been doing is downhill, and I have gone back to my old route with more uphill sections ⛰️
I can tell from my splits and particularly my heart rate tracker that I was just cheating myself and I will achieve better fitness from following the C25k plan - here's to greater running in 2024.
And my takeaway from week 1 - Gravity is Real! 😁

I could have written this post!! I always feel the same when coming back from a break. My head is saying “you’ve run a half marathon, how can fifteen minutes be so bad?!!!” (with some added unsavoury language!) but it’s just a phase and you’ll soon feel like yourself again. It normally takes me a couple of weeks of regular running and then suddenly my body seems to remember that it knows what to do and it all feels better again.
Just keep at it-this is only temporary and it’s a necessary (but not necessarily fun!) step to getting back to where you want to be.
🍏 what a brave & wise decision to do it from scratch & not put extra pressure on your body! I am going to send you the link to our Graduates chat seeing you are a past graduate. There will bits and bobs there each week to help keep you motivated but more importantly please share some of your experiences in the early post grad days… it’s so helpful to others! Thank you!
