Hi all, new to the community and recently took up running after a break of roughly 40 years😀
I'm used to cycling but was quite surprised how hard I've found running, now on week 4 run 2 of the C25K, going well so far, a few niggles and my asthma is playing up. I've also returned to swimming, So swim, bike, run, almost sounds like a triathlon😜

🍏👏It certainly does sound like a triathlon. Well done.
Make sure you are not running too fast! It’s the reason most people struggle with running. The slower you run the more you will enjoy it. It’s not a race, those can come later. These runs now are to build up strength and resilience week by week! Let us know how you get on!
Keep it up… I’m 59 and hadn’t run for over 40 years… I’ve recently completed week 9 run 3 and graduated and my asthma has completely disappeared, well at least I haven’t had to use any of my inhalers since I started C25K. My plan is to start swimming and cycling and aim for a 70.3 Ironman/half triathlon… who knows where C25K will take us?
My first target is to get to week 9 and the last run😄, then find some Parkruns to do, and if that all goes well, I'll find a nice flat sprint triathlon to take part in next year 2024, I must admit, I'm already looking at the standard distance tri's, I can cope with the swimming and the bike ride, it's the running that's the unknown at present.
Welcome to running. It's great that you've found this community, they are very supportive, and full of very useful advice. I can empathise with the cycling/running thing. I was a keen VTT (mountain bike rider) before taking up C25K. The muscles used for running are not exactly the same ones used for cycling, so the transition is not quite so easy as it might seem. I've experienced this in the other sense too. Having now been a keen runner for the last 9 years, I have a friend that I occassionally cycle with, the cycling now feels difficult because the cycling muscles are no longer in trim! What I love about running, compared to cycling, is the lack of equipment to worry about and that it is slow enough to take in all of your surroundings in detail
Welcome to this lovely forum 😊it’s a genuinely nice place to be and you’ll get plenty of support advice and encouragement along the way!
You are right about running challenging you physically in a different way even if you are fit from other sports. As everyone will tell you the key is steady and slow…enjoy the journey!
Stick with it. As a former time trial cyclist (turned slob) who tried running n the off season years ago I can definitely state that cycling fitness and running fitness are not the same. I was capable of riding 25 miles in under 53 minutes at the time but pulled a calf muscle running just 2 miles. It seems only running prepares your body for the impact stress running causes. Take it easy, stick to the plan and you'll be doing the whole swim, bike, run thing before you know it.
