Slow, slow, quick, quick slow!

Ran 4.8 miles in 40 minutes this morning. Is this just slow or very slow? I couldn't believe I'd actually run that far, but that's what my pedometer said. Happy running all.

Hi , 4.8 miles is over 7k ! So that is not very slow , or even slow , that is fast , yes ? :-) xxx

Ta for that poppy. It just seems slow when I am actually running. Hope the pedometer is working properly! Although i would have been quite happy to be slow, but a little disappointed to still be very slow. Just doing 3 runs a week now of at least 30 mins. Think I might be starting to enjoy! Good running this morning. Cooler here today and fine rain

That is really very good , seriously ! I did my first 5K the other night and it took me 42 minutes and 57 seconds , I felt as if I was running for hours and hours ha ha ! I am going to do 5k on a weekend day I think and just 2 runs during the week for maybe 20-30 minutes. It has been very very sticky here today but overcast , my fave running weather is light/medium drizzle

You are doing so well , I would be very pleased with that ! :-) xxx

Well I am around 1.5 - 1.6 miles in 25 mins, which would make 4.5 miles in 75 mins if I could keep going that long! So in my only end of week 7 opinion your time and distance is fast. I'm working on the speed once I have the time sorted - actually once I graduate (6 runs to go) I plan to steadily up my pace so I can manage longer runs in 30 mins and one day I might actually manage the 5K

Again i am no expert (only week 8) but i think this is fast :-), i managed 2.6miles in 28minutes today. I don't think you need to worry about speed, this is not slow (in my non expert opinion) Happy running!!

Your tags give you your answer. If your pedometer is accurate then your pace is very respectable and (if my maths is right) would give you a 10k time of 50 minutes, of which I can only dream.

Keep running, keep smiling.

I'd say sounds great. I do 5k in 30-35 min and that is just over 3 miles. Well done

5 miles is a smidgen below 8km. Doing that in 40 minutes sounds really good. I would consider it fast (I can only dream of being able to run equally fast one day)

I've just done some maths and that would be classed as a decent pace. I've been running for 2 years and I can do a 10k (6.2 miles) in 49mins. Working out the respective pace, if I ran at that speed and stopped at 4.8 I would do it in 37mins which is only 3mins faster than you. And I literally run ALL THE TIME. Like at least a 5k every day and sometimes up to 15k a day sort of thing.

Are you being deliberately provocative? I jest, of course, but 5 MILES in that time is pretty darned good. Many dream of doing 5K in that time.

Well done, congrats and all the other celebratory words I can't think of.

In a few words - "that's pretty darn quick". I just did 4.4 miles (7K) in a shade under 48 minutes this morning.... you are "moving it"... :)

One way to check the pedometer is to map out where you ran on Google Maps or MapMyRun (or any of those route planning things) to see what the actual distance was... then you'll know!

Either way - you ran for 40 minutes... that in itself is worthy of a round of applause... good for you! Take a random sample of 20 people at your local school/supermarket/workplace and ask them how many of them could run non-stop for 40 minutes.... I would bet not very many... :)

Honestly, not being provocative! Just don't believe it! I've downloaded a pedometer app onto my phone so I can double check next run. Will own up if i've got it wrong.
