After reaching the end of week 3 and then badly spraining my ankle walking my dog, I have been trying other ways of exercising that initially did not involve putting my foot to the ground. Light dumbbells', sitting exercises and stretching to start, then gentle work on my ankle. My dog walks were a bit short to start with but gradually increased back to where I was at before. As I was not experiencing any pain, this week I gave C25K week one a go again.
Everything went brilliantly, no pain and each run completed. I would not say easily, but definitely not as difficult as my first attempt all those weeks ago. The temperature is much kinder now which may have had something to do with it. Also, I did not run alone. My boy-friend (can you still call him that at 41?) came with me as promised. I don't think he is as much of a novice as he made out as he seemed to effortlessly jog along next to me each day. Apparently he used to do a five minute run to warm up at the gym when he used to go which was before the pandemic.
I am all set for week two on Monday and my plan is to have the C25k plan well and truly finished by Christmas.
One bit of advice I can give about weight loss. Make sure your bathroom scales are accurate before panicking over your BMI!! My old ones were showing I was over a stone heavier that I really am. When I had comments saying I did not need to lose weight, I thought they were being polite. I am actually within the "normal" weigh band for my height. I have lost weight recently so was probably overweight before, but no where near as much as I thought. Happy days!!
