Well I finished the programme today and I'm totally stoked about it. It feels great but I have to say that the last half was the toughest bit of running I've done yet! Thank goodness it was cooler today than it has been.
I started from a different point on the route which was a little disorientating and I must have been belting along (for me) because I passed two other sets of joggers. This was a new experience for me as usually its very much the other way round.
Suddenly, the half time bell rang which was a shock because I thought I'd done much more and had just missed the bell earlier. I was starting to worry about not being able to finish and I slowed right down but even so it took an immense effort to keep going and really it was the goal of finishing this last run that got me through it.
Anyway, onwards to some consolidation runs next, I don't feel totally comfortable with the 30 minutes yet, feels like I'm just scraping through.
Then I need to decide if I want to increase my pace to get up to 5k (today I did 4.3km) or lengthen my run. I think like most people I've not really thought that far ahead. A park run with some proper timings seems like the next logical step.
Thanks for all your kind comments and the very best with your running endeavours folks!
๐๐๐๐ฅณ ๐ซ Congratulations and celebrations!!!! You will be living on cloud nine for a wee while!!! Your hard work over the weeks has paid off and your determination today to complete a hard run is admirable!
Consolidation comes next & I will give you a link you may find helpful. Just a tip I found useful with those 30 min runsโฆ run the first 10 mins very slowly .. they are called the toxic 10 & itโs your body adjusting โฆ then the rest of the run will be more enjoyable!
Thanks Annie, I'll try that and thank you for always being there with a smile and a wave and helpful advice. I hope you know how much we all appreciate that.๐
Iโve been a โgraduateโ for a while and if Iโm honest I have no desire to run longer or further (my excuse is Iโm 65) but I do enjoy my 3 or 4 30 minute runs a week. Some are easier and faster than others and some are a struggle but for me so long as I enjoy it I will keep going. I mix it up with some basic strength exercises and yoga and Qi Chong to keep supple and keep the carbs low and just enjoy the fact that I can do what I do. The older I get the more I realise time is short, life is not a rehearsal and itโs important to stay as fit as I can so I can enjoy the world.
Congratulations and welcome to the graduates club, my suggestion would be to slowly increase your time running and head towards a parkrun, don't forget, you can also walk a parkrun so a mix of walking and jogging is perfectly acceptable, good luck with your running journey ๐
