Achieved my first 5k!

Since finishing couch to 5k 2 months ago I feel I had a bit of a mental block as I struggled to run for 30 mins. I downloaded NRC and started the beginner programme and that’s really helped although I feel it’s not really a beginner programme! Today I went out for the 42 min long run and achieved 5k a slow and steady pace. I hope I can continue on and reach a sub 40 min 5k, I know a lot of people have a goal of reaching 5k in 30 mins or less, but I don’t care because I’m in disbelief that I am even moving! Just wanted to share my happiness of finally doing it 😄

I agree about that NRC programme-I think it’s more aimed at people trying to get faster at 5k. It sounds like you’ve made it work for you-congratulations! What a milestone. Hope you’re celebrating!

When you’re ready, come over to Bridge to 10k for the next stage of your journey! Don’t be put off by the name-it’s for anyone who has finished couch to 5k and feels ready to move on with their running. Come and say hi!

Congratulations to you Han99m on running your first 5K, well done, I am sure it won't be long before you can run a sub 40 minute 5K, but don't rush, perhaps even at a parkrun if you wish to go to one.

Thank you, I’d love to do a park run but they make me so anxious! Maybe one day 😀

Huge congrats to you!! That is such a great achievement. I can relate to the slower is better and I love how it feels to just be able to keep going if you need to! I pride myself on being a snail runner. Congrats again!

Thank you! It’s encouraging to know that being slow doesn’t have to be a bad thing, all I see around me are people running super fast!

That’s because us slow folk are behind you, to us you look fast too!

If you are running it’s never too slow.
