And now week 5’s complete

Went out Tuesday and had a really good run but when it was time to run on Thursday I was just not up to it so gave myself another day. Friday morning was very wet , Tia put her nose out of the door and looked at me as if to say ‘you must be joking!’ So, for the first time in ages I went out alone. No excuses to get my breath back when she stopped for a wee! Anyway, I quite enjoyed running in the rain and all of a sudden I was facing to 20 minute run next. Went out this morning, had my little running buddy back and enjoyed the final run of week 5. Hopefully week 6 will be as enjoyable. The picture is Tia on Friday when she decided to stay home.

Congratulations to you and Tia on completing run 3 of week 5, that is a milestone run with C25K, onwards and upwards to week 6 run 1 but be careful about that run as it catches out some people (and their dog) with the interval walks and runs after the non stop 20 minutes of W5R3 which you have just ran 🏃🏾 😊

Have only run once in the rain so far and I must admit I really enjoyed it. Not sure how it will be with cold rain come winter though!

I don't blame Tia, rain means staying cozy inside. Well done you though, enjoy week 6

🍏Sweeest photo!! Would love to have her running with me!! Well done on your rainy run.. overcoming the elements is a huge key to successful running outdoors especially in the winter… So pleased you enjoyed it! Well done on the 20minute run!! Absolutely 👍 you are now a runner… 🥳

Congratulations Phdgranny! I'm one run behind you and have just this minute returned from doing Week 5 Run 2 (2 x 8 mins).....I'm really interested in how you got on with 1 x 20 minutes because I'm very apprehensive about it (it's scheduled for Wednesday morning) For today's run, legs, knees, breathing, heart - all good (pace still slower than a snail).....but I feel a bit light-headed and keep hitting the wrong keys on my laptop! Is this all part of it???? Good luck with the rest of the programme btw.

Hi mg, I’m no expert. I did complete this 3 years ago and continued running until catching Covid and then developing Long Covid 11 months ago. Thus, I am taking things very gradually. If I need to take an extra day in between I do and I’ve even repeated some runs. I’m 66 and will never be fast! I’m sure my sons could walk faster than I run! It’s really good you are not suffering any aches and pains as a result of running. As to feeling light headed. When in the day do you run? Do you eat anything before your run? I seem to remember that when I began to go a bit further last time I needed to just have something before the run, for me it was just half a slice of toast and jam but I’m sure there is great advice out there. What I tend to do is to start off really slow (even slower than usual) sometimes I stay at that pace, occasionally I speed up just a little. My usual pace for the running bits is about 8-8.5 minutes per Km, so I would slow to 9. Hope that’s helpful x

Fantastic - thank you. Good call about the empty tum....I'm currently going out anywhere between 6.30am and 8am with only a cuppa inside me. I'll take your advice and have a slice of toast or a banana before attempting the 20 minute run.

How wretched about your Long Covid...it's very brave (and wise!) to try to get going again, but you're soooo right to take it slow. My daughter-in-law has agreed to do a 5k with me towards the end of the year, but I've warned her she'll be able to do two in the time it takes me to do one - assuming I ever reach that distance.

Good luck!
