I completed C25K 3 years ago then was in lock down for 2 years and, at the age of 76, I completely lost my confidence for another year with numerous health problems. When I was diagnosed with poly myalgia I was prescribed steroids. The subsequent weight gain and the possibility of weakness in my bones and diabetes meant I had to take some action and I started C25k once more. I run on a treadmill and am now on week 2 run 2 but am finding it really hard going. Every muscle is complaining. It’s hard to believe the difference in my body after 3 years of no real exercise. Please tell me that it will get easier

It could get easier but if you are struggling with any runs whether outside or on the treadmill I would advise you to seek professional medical advice from your doctor first before continuing with your running.

Hello and welcome back.... If you have the all clear from your doctors... and not in pain, then it may just be the aches and pains from lack of exercise. But as AlMorr suggets, any doubt... do get some medical advice..

If you are okay to move on..then it will take a while and some gentle regular exercise to get those muscles moving again will help. I know if I did not keep up with my routine I would really feel it. I am 73.

Many ideas on the strength and flex forum for some of your rest days. for you to choose from.. and a challenge some of us just did.. the Five Tibetan Rites may be a good starting point... I chose the sitting version ( recovering from a back problem)...

Very gentle and making more of an impact than you would think...

youtube.com/watch?v=38-XUb1...

There are many ideas on the S and F forum... so maybe decide where you would like to begin...if you want some for specific areas, then just let me know and I can point you in the right direction:)

This will get easier, but it will be slow and steady... which for me is just right! x

i can only relate lynnpaul but im 25 years younger so a relative spring chicken at 51

I conpleted C25K 4 years ago but lockdown/work/any excuse and i completely lapsed.

I started back up 8 weeks ago and found it tough from the get-go. I ached all over, chest, back, legs, neck, and this was for my first 5 weeks.

I repeated many a run, failed many a run and have got to the point where tonight i faiked W5 R3

The way i look at it, 30 mins walk is better than no walk. 1 min run is better than no run.

From my experience 4-5 weeks for my body to say ‘ok, i’m getting a bit used to this now’ but everybodies body is different.

I hope you keep at it and good luck!
