HiCan anyone help signpost or recommend some good running trainers, or a place to buy them from.

My last pair were fab when I was 6stone lighter and my joints weren't as weak, but even fast paced walking is causing me considerable pain in my ankle, shins, knees and top of the foot.

I don't know where to begin aha

Help please :)

Thanks in advance

a proper independent running shop. If you plan ahead and made an appointment, they’ll spend 30 minutes or even an hour letting you try running shoes on and running/walking on a treadmill. They also measure your feet, check your gait, etc., and still only charge the same as a big sports shop.

I wear Brooks and buy a new pair on average once a year for about £120. Annoyingly, shoes change design every year or so, but you can go to the same running shop and try another shoe.

You would be better having a gait analysis at an independent running shop and then seeing what they advise.

The running shoes that might be good for someone else may be totally unsuitable for you and do more harm than good !

I would repeat the "find a good running shop with gait analysis" reply. Also there are some good sites on the internet who review running shoes. Runner's World is quite good, among others. I started with Brooks Ghost, which I liked, but they seemed to lose their bounce very quickly. I've been using Asics Gel Cummulus for the last 5 years, they seem to retain their qualities for much longer, and are very comfortable for me. I would echo CocoChannel's comment about shoes design changing, when you find something that suits you, you want to get the same again! Fortunately Gel Cumulus changes have been very incremental, and I still like the latest version. On the other hand, I have some Addidas shoes that I really like, but have no idea what the latest variant are called! It's not easy, because what feels nice walking around in a shop, does not neccessarily feel good running along a grit path. I really didn't like Gel Cummulus when I first tried them in a shop, because the heel seemed to come up too high behind my ankle. When I actually ran in them though they felt good.

actually, I’d be careful. I had, for example, Brooks 21 which were great. When they wore out, I tried the newer model - Brooks 22 - and the fit was totally different. Need to try on shoes every time you buy. I bought once online during lockdown but otherwise always try them

I just got some asics gel nimbus 25's. Really recommend them, like running on clouds.I got them on a deal at John Lewis online with £40 off.

I'm totally the opposite, I go for cheap and cheerful shoes at Decathlon (own brand), plus strengthening exercises. I have never spent over £100 on shoes for running or anything else :D Maybe I'm a skinflint!

If it works for you then it's good :) I use Décathlon running clothes. Décathlon is the main sports chain store here in France.
