DID IT AGAIN ๐๐ผ: Day 2 of 28 min run... - Couch to 5K
DID IT AGAIN ๐๐ผ
so close now! well done!
"obviously I do incorporate rest days in between runs"
But not this time ? ๐ค
We would definitely advise against running on consecutive days !
Well done on the 28 minutes though !
I also just went for it and ran on 2 consecutive days in week 8. It worked for me and I finished my week 9 runs on a high last week. Keep your confidence levels up and go for it. Good luck
Running on consecutive days as a new runner is taking a HUGE risk .Yes you may have got away with it but overuse injuries can come out of the blue and literally stop you in your tracks for days weeks or even months.
It's simply not worth the risk which is why it is mentioned in the program guide and also why we would also point that out for the benefit of anyone else working through the program
it also states in the community guidelines that we should be respectful and supportive, giving our experience rather than advice. There is a risk to the psychological health of any runner who you put down
This isn't a put down at all. In a respectful and supportive way as a member of the Administration team; this is fact and not personal advice.:
That:
We are required to disseminate accurate information which forms the framework of the NHS C25K programme.
In this current age of complaint and litigation , we could be liable, if we fail as an Administration team to comply with our guidelines from HU.
However:
Speaking purely as another runner and from personal experience .
This is a structured plan I, 8 years ago chose to follow.
Designed to get me running for 30 minutes after hopefully, nine weeks.
I joined and followed the guidelines. It is a carefully structured plan. It made sense to follow it.
Brings to mind the time I asked my Doctor about an "Alternative" med to the one I was taking.
Her reply,
" Up to you - depends on if you want something that has been working for you, thousands upon thousands of others of all ages and health levels, was tested for years before distributed and is monitored constantly...or you can try something that maybe twenty people licked off a tree once and "felt" better".
I went with "Big Data" and long-term actual "human being" experiences, the considered advice of someone who knew a heck of a lot more about the subject than me, and all is well. The "other" stuff might have worked also - but why play the odds? I don't mind an occasional game of Poker, but I never bet my house
Same with the programme. There are still Rest Days that I really feel like a run. However, there have been so many sad and regretful posts I've seen here, over my seven years and counting, of people who did ignore them and came to grief.
I absolutely agree Old Floss and others - how is it a "put down" to share a common lode of experienced and time-proven knowledge?
After all, isn't that the main purpose of the Forum? To support and educate people who have, for all practical purposes, not run before? To disseminate the knowledge, nurture good tactics, raise awareness of pitfalls and ensure as far as possible the most positive progression from Day One to Graduation?
What I focus on those Rest Days when I do really want to run is remembering the "Feels good having a run" can very realistically turn into "Feels rotten on the IC"
Anyway - just my personal opinions and experience, if it causes discomfit to anyone please be assured it's not my intent. This Forum made me a Runner, a bloody miracle that in its own right, and I would hate for anyone to have to quit before they discover the joy.
I like your doctor's response ๐
She was great Took no notice of my Blarney and BS, patched me up for years, Bean Counters hated her - no way would she pay attention to the Budgets, if you needed something you got it It was only after she retired we all realsed what an amazing Doc she was, hard as nails but 100% dedicated to her "idiot loyalty card holders" as she so often referred to some of us
Congratulations
Follow the advice , it's meant for your benefit. If you're feeling hyper on a rest day do a session of strength and conditioning, pilates, swim or cycle or walk. Those things will improve your performance well.
