Running after the flu

Hello all, I am doing the C25k for the third time in 6 years and loving it, especially as I am doing the slow jog this time! My question is this, I was 3 runs from completion, but then got knocked sideways by a really nasty flu. Its been nearly 3 weeks I have not felt well, but now getting better. When would it be OK to start running again?

It's a tricky one !Everyone's recovery is likely to be different, but if it is affecting your chest and/or your breathing then I certainly wouldn't run .

When you do go out you may be better just seeing how you go rather than going out with the intention of running 30 minutes .

Give yourself permission to stop if you are struggling.

Personally I don't run even with a cold , if I don't feel well then I simply do not enjoy the run so would prefer to wait until I'm well again but that's of course personal choice .

Hope your better soon 🤞

Sorry you’ve been ill. There have been some horrible bugs around this year and I was in a similar position to you a few months ago. There was a helpful article linked in this post I wrote about it over on Bridge to 10k. It might be worth a look.

My comeback run after illness is always a gentle (max) fifteen minute jog where I’ve already decided I’ll cut short if I need to. That usually gives some useful information about where to restart. Take it steady-there’s no rush to be back where you were.

Really good luck to you. ❤️

I'm still getting over flu, had it just over a week but had to run this morning.

Personally, if it were me, I'd drop back and do week 6 run 1 and 2 and then hit week 5 run 3 before jumping back to week 9 but that's me.
