I just completed week three. But my right knee is hurting so my performance wasn’t great over last two sessions. I gave Reebok trainers but they aren’t running shoes. Is it likely because of my trainers. I’m just wondering as if I don’t continue with C25K then I’d be wasting money on running shoes I’m vegan and looked at Brooks shoes they are as I’m sure you’re aware £100 upwards. Any suggestions from anyone welcome.

I'm not giving advice, apart from every run I do I put £1 in a pot so by the time my shoes are worn out there'll be enough for a new pair. Not that that's very helpful to you though at this moment.Worth doing a gait analysis at a running shop, they will be able to suggest the best shoe for you, a pair of sport insoles work for some and straighten feet up which can help knees, but gait analysis is a must at some point, you don't have to buy your shoes there but onc you know what's suitable you can hunt round the internet for offers.
First thing to say is it not unusual to get knee niggles as a new runner .Try the knee strengthening exercises mentioned in the programme guide !
I certainly found they helped me .
Your trainers may or may not be a problem .
You say you looked at Brooks , why was that ?
I had Brook's in mind also before I bought my first running shoes , but then I had a gait analysis at an independent running shop and instead of Brooks that I had no real reason for wanting, I actually came out with a pair of Saucony!
And I have worn the same make ever since .
Yes, running shoes are not cheap my first pair were around £130
Now I know what I need I buy online at significantly cheaper prices .
But the gait analysis will tell you what you need .
my running shoes came out of Decathlon, I have one pair of "brand" shoes that are Innov8 trail shoes that I found on offer online, otherwise I have no problem buying Decathlon running shoes
I think my last pair cost me 40€ - once they start getting too shabby and less support I turn them into dog walking shoes
if you search for "running" on their website, you can choose running shoes, then on the left of the search results you can filter my the rough number of km that you run per week.
Hi Threelegs , I think this is your first post? Welcome, and if you haven't already looked at the How to run C25K guide, please do have a read, as it's got lots of useful information:healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
While it might be that your shoes aren't providing you with enough support, lots of other factors can affect your running, as you'll see from the guide. If you do need new shoes, there are various budget options, as others suggest.
I'm not sure what you mean by my performance wasn’t great over last two sessions. All you're aiming to do is complete each session as described in the C25K programme, at a pace that's comfortable for you.
Final thing - it's not unusual to experience some discomfort, particularly when you're starting out as a runner. However, if it's real pain you're experiencing, please don't run. Instead, take a break, try some strengthening exercises, and then give things another go. Enjoy C25K!
I had a very sore right knee after week 2, I saw a physio and it was my hip that was causing the knee pain. I've exercises to do and I'm doing yoga with Cassandra on you tube too. I'm about to start week 4 of c25k tomorrow and fingers crossed all is good. I did invest in proper running trainers and had a gait analysis done as I do overpronate.
