Footwear advice needed

I’ve read on here that proper running shoes are important. Obviously I can’t go for a gait analysis etc at the moment and as the shops are likely to be closed for quite some time, my question is would I be better ordering some (reasonably priced) standard running shoes to wear for now instead of my very old trainers, then get better ones when I can, or will the trainers do? I’m just concerned that the wrong footwear for a couple of months might do me harm

Yeah, not ideal at the moment for sure. These people do online gait analysis if you have access to a treadmill sportsshoes.com/gait-analysis/ or there’s the more basic wet foot test on there too. This should give you a rough idea if no treadmill.

I’d recommend getting an actual running shoe, and as it’s highly likely that you’re not neutral (only 10% of people are) then getting them from, at the moment, a specialist running shoe website is the way to go. There’s plenty of bargains to be had, not least because all events have been cancelled, and I’d recommend the PriceSpy app once you’ve decided on a shoe, as it cuts through all the colour combinations easily, and this can save you even more money. All the online stores will exchange if they don’t fit correctly... they need to feel really comfortable when you put them on. Right now I’d set a budget and stick to it, as an on-site gait analysis may find you a shoe that suits you more, once this virus thing goes away.

Thank you so much, I’ll have a look, I don’t have a treadmill but could try the wet footprint 👣

Thank uou

You can try a self gait test involving paint and looking at your footprint I'm sure I read it somewhere..... I went for gait analysis and was told I heel strike but it's very slight, and I've over pronation again minimally, the trainers I bought are brooks adrenaline it's a stability shoe but you could happily wear them if you had a normal foot gait..... But I'd say even new trainers would have improved shock absorbing quality over old ones!

That sound interesting I’ll look it up! I’m pretty sure I over probate just slightly on one side at least

Or even pronate 🙄😂

Also, make sure you size up to at least half a size larger than normal. Mine are a whole size larger.

After doing C25k in my 20 year old ASIC trainers I thought I’d better treat myself to some ‘proper’ running shoes. I spent what was for me a lot of money on Merrel all terrain running shoes. I shouldn’t have bothered! First time out I slid all over the place on cobbles. I went straight back to my very old trainers and I’m happy.

Thank you for your reply I really do think I should get some new ones but maybe I’ll not spend too much on my first pair 🤔

This post about buying shoes may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes a link to a wet foot test, which is an indicator to your likely support requirements.

Rereading my reply I realised I had given you the incorrect link. I have now edited it to the correct one.

That’s good where did you order them from s as most I’ve seen have long delivery dates so I thought I might be better waiting til shops open as wait 2 weeks out more for delivery
