180lb 47yo bloke here. Last time I ran was possibly holding an egg and spoon at the primary school sports day about forty years ago.
Lost 2st 5lb at Slimming World since October ‘22 and I’m now feeling a lot better, confidence wise. So, about to grab the bull by the horns and launch myself into C25K in the hope of maximising the weight loss and getting myself fitter.
I CAN do this 💪🏻 Wish me luck!

Ooo you are at the beginning of a very exciting journey, but beware, running can quickly become addictive 🤣🤣🤣Good luck, have fun, keep us posted and read the guide post which is in the pinned posts,
Welcome to the world of running! Lots of good people here to keep you motivated and inspired! Just remember to take it slow and easy to avoid not just injury, but also so that it becomes something you look forward to doing, not something you feel is a chore. Good luck and keep us posted!!
Welcome! You’ve made a great decision to start c25k. I’d echo everything that’s been said so far-keep it steady (probably much slower than you’re expecting), take recovery days between run, stretch, work on strength and think about what/when you’re eating and how to stay well hydrated. The most important thing by far though is to celebrate every step you’re taking. You’ll get fitter and stronger. You’ll discover grit and mental toughness you never knew you had in you. You’ll be part of the friendliest community I know!
Ask any questions reading the programme guide has brought to mind (or anything else-we love talking about everything running related). Update on how you’re doing and there’s a load of virtual run buddies ready to cheer you on. Good luck! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
You’ve come to the right place PSJ1975! Like others have said, take it slow and at your own pace - there’s no rush and if you feel you need to take a bit longer over each week then you can! And make sure you stay well hydrated! Enjoy your C25K journey and keep posting so we know how you’re doing !
welcome you whipper snapper you! This is just the best plan. I wouldn’t say running itself is great at weight loss but it tones, is great for mental health and you just love feeling fit and healthy which changes your mind set and keeps you on the right track !
Apologies for not replying sooner, but went to see my mum straight after the ‘run’, then to work this morning.
Thank you all for the words of encouragement 👍
So, the run…. It happened. And, at the end, I was pleasantly surprised that I had completed it without any injury. And the sense of accomplishment was excellent.
Hiya PS well I'm the same age, same weight too but opposite gender and I started last week. However I will be staying on run 1 for a few more weeks ....just my choice. I attempted it 2 years agp in 2021 and went week to week without stretching my calves and by week 9 had such painful calves. I decided this time to give my body more time and stay longer on each run for a few weeks. Well done with the weight loss.....moving more fat is so much more taxing on our bodies. I saw a really fit slim girl in park running and her running looked effortless.....she made it look so effortless so hoping to get to that one day!
177 lb 70 year old here and was in a similar situation till 3 years ago. I am a 10K graduate but now on my 3rd C25K course following a few mishaps. Just take it steady and don't expect a great weight loss but you will be fitter. Increase by a max of 10% every few runs and consolidate every few runs. I thought I could run for ever till I ran for never. Take your time. You have a lot of years to enjoy and learn by my mistake. Don't overdo it early!!
You’ve done so well already on your slimming world plan - this is just another plan - follow it and you will see results. Good luck and enjoy, keep it slow and be proud of yourself 👍🏻 post any updates
You're about the same weight I was when I started C25K (approx 82kg).
I would suggest not doing low calorie dieting whilst doing an exercise regime. By that I mean don't go below the normal recommended daily amounts and make sure you're getting a good balance. Your body will need the building materials. I ate normally but cut out snacking on biscuits, etc.
Don't expect miracle results. I did lose about 5kg in the first six months, and another 5kg over the following year, but by then I was running regularly pretty much every other day.
You probably won't notice any change in weight initially but your shape will probably change. My face lost the jowls I was developing and the spare tyre that had been gradually inflating gradually deflated. My upper legs started feeling tighter in the legs of my jeans whilst I had to go down two notches on my belt.
