Welcome to the forum! There’s a brilliant little guide to the programme here with lots of helpful hints and tips. Well worth a read.
I find to help the lead leg feeling, warming up well and having a really good stretch afterwards is key.
It’s also possible you might have gone a little quickly yesterday. You want to keep it slow and steady at a pace where you can talk in full sentences without gasping for your best development. Most of us go too fast!
Recovery days between runs are absolutely essential too. Take at least a day, possibly more if your legs are still very sore between runs. I find getting out for a walk can really help ease off sore muscles. A gentle swim or cycle could be another option-anything low impact.
You’ll almost certainly find that this gets better as you get used to running. It’s often the same starting any new form of exercise or picking it up for the first time in a while.
Really good luck to you! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Welcome to the forum and the program. And well done on your decision to start!
You have great advice already from MissUnderstanding .
Keep the runs slow , stay well hydrated and enjoy the journey.
Cone back and let us know how you are doing !
Edit :
I was a little quick with my response and just picked up on what you said about legs feeling like lead !
This is often a sign of dehydration.
I notice you said you drank lots of water afterwards .
It's crucial that you are fully hydrated
Before !
Take a look at this .
Hello SkyGirlie , maybe this is a silly question but what do you have on your feet? Are they running shoes or just ordinary trainers? Personally I can't run any distance in fashion trainers, running shoes however have a sort of bounce which makes the whole thing a lot more doable. You don't need an expensive pair they just need to fit properly. If you have a friend who runs or a local running shop they should be able to advise, but this could be a game changer.
Other than that, let me tell you that once you get a bit further it will get easier. You're doing something new and there's a very steep learning curve ahead of you but it is so worthwhile. Let us know how you get along, we've all been there and are willing you to succeed
thankyou for all your suggestion, I really appreciate it and has really raised my spirits.
I had plenty of water 1/2hr before run but think I should have had more water earlier so will try that.
I have a new pair of NewBalance Fresh Foam 680 v7 Running Trainers as my previous pair (which I’ve primarily used for lots of pavement dog walking) were starting to become a bit tired.
Probably went too fast on the middle runs too, tomorrow is Day 2 so will see how I get on.
