Getting back to running again

Only our second run this year, but we have been waiting for the weather to improve as I can’t risk getting ill, as my white cells are still slightly low.

But so pleased we ran for a full 20 mins, 2.4K plus the 5 mins walk warm up each way. We are hoping to get out again on Wednesday evening after work. It felt so good to be out running together, I really want to run every other day, weather permitting. 🏃‍♀️🏃

Fantastic! When I was coming back from an injury, that’s almost exactly what I did. Fifteen minutes every other day. It worked really well for me. After a little while I let the runs start extending gradually and I’m now running pretty much normally again. I’d been running regularly before the fall.

What’s your recent run experience? It might be worth thinking about doing some of couch to 5k again as a way to build back up if it’s been a while? That’s a very popular route to take on here after a bit of a gap.

Really good luck to you. Keep your aim for every other day but if your body tells you you need a bit more rest, it’s the boss and worth listening to!❤️

Thanks for the encouragement. I run with my husband, and if I feel tired we tend to walk for a minute or so, but I am easily managing 1k without the need to walk, so I’m probably a bit fitter than I thought. I have been doing the stretch and flex whilst not running, so that has probably helped.

I think it’s been more of a confidence thing since my breast cancer ops last year, and the radiotherapy after affects lasted longer than I thought (mainly tiredness)

But I feel like I’m getting back to being me, if you know what I mean 😊. Once I got out there I just felt instantly better xx

It must feel so good to be back out there again-really lovely to hear you’re feeling like yourself again. Take it steady and keep taking stock of how you’re feeling. If you’ve not run in a while, those running ligaments and tendons and muscles will need a bit of time to build up to full strength again even if you haven’t lost other fitness so it’s still worth being a bit cautious.

Most importantly, don’t miss any opportunity to celebrate how awesome you are ❤️

There's something so joyous about getting back out there. If I've been away from it for a period of time, even just a week or two, then I can't help the little smile that sneaks out as I start running...occasionally it's still there at the end too 😉

Glad you're enjoying it & let's hope your health & the weather continues to play ball, not to mention the nights drawing out 👍
